That seems to be the word on this draft, a couple drop offs and not much depth.w/o a 1st this year, and picking fairly late in the 2nd round, i am having a hard time getting worked up about the draft. I'm paraphrasing here, but scouts are saying that the talent in the draft falls off hard after the first 10-15 players, so that a late 1st is like a 2nd most years, and a 2nd rounder like a 3rd.
If true, then not a bad year to trade our pick, assuming that we finish high up in the standings.
“'Nos. 1 to 8 are quite strong, but there’s a bit of a drop off after eight and then again a bigger drop off between 15 and 20,' said another scout.
One scout went so far as to say a lot of the players who will be drafted in the bottom half of the first round would in prior years be better suited to being second-round picks.
'It’s all relative of course,' the scout said, 'but I’d say the second rounders this year would be third rounders in previous years where there was greater depth.'” - McKenzie
