Fried to the Yankees.

Boston continues to strike out. I was fine giving Breslow a pass last season, but you cannot, I repeat CANNOT come in to this offseason w/ Kennedy, Breslow, Cora, et al ALL SAYING THE SAME BASIC SHIT, which is that they "know they've asked fans to be patient, but now it's time to compete..." or whatever bullshit they have.

John Henry and FSG need to f***ing shit or get off the pot. The financial side of the game has changed, and these motherf***in assholes are out here thinking they can win swinging their 2004 level rich dicks around.

The first thing Henry did as owner was hire Billy Beane, who changed his mind a day later, then his protege Theo Epstein. It was all about getting those market inefficiencies with more of a budget than Oakland. But now in the age of advanced stats and analytical departments, it's harder to find hidden gems because they're not very hidden. So it's all about money and team-player relationships - they've been hesitant to spend the former and have made a mess of the latter after the Mookie and Sale deals. They're in a bind and really need to break the idea that they're also-rans in the market, even if it means technically "overpaying" for a guy like a Fried or Burnes to open up the floodgates for future free agents.
The sport has just become too expensive for them. They're comfortable being in the 180-210 payroll range and that used to be almost a guarantee for top 3 in the league, Now you have like a third of the entire majors paying that and some are even into the 300s.

They'll let themselves get outbid for every major free agent these days because they're only interested in adding elite or great talent from the outside to the team if they can get them for good player money. Red Sox ownership have willingly turned themselves into the Brewers, their reputation around the league has diminished and the fanbase is only going to care less and less. Maybe if they get bullied enough they'll throw the fans a bone once in a while but they just don't care anymore.

It's been beyond time for a real owner who wants to win and compete

If they don't want to pay market rate for 30+ free agents, that's fine. It's smart business. But if they've decided they're out on those deals, then they've got to seriously increase their investment in draft and development resources, and increase their efforts to get their young players signed to extensions.

I'm not sure the West Coast wants Burnes.

Dodgers don't have a need. Seattle doesn't have a need.

Angels reportedly aren't interested.

Padres are looking to shed payroll.

Maybe the Giants?
Yeah I was thinking that. He did well for the Orioles hopefully he wants Boston

For what it's worth, the Sox have seriously increased spending on the player development side over the past few years. Part of the reason they their farm system is now so highly-rated. I don't think it's a coincidence that Roman Anthony and Kristian Campbell have had meteoric rises over the past two seasons.

This is the worst possible off-season. Breslow is having a worse week than Bashar al-Assad.

At this point I just want a cathartic breakup where Cora walks out on them or something

Oh, I'm well aware, but they've got to make that spending dwarf the rest of the league's if it's going to be their primary operating model.
