Between him and Judge, that’s a lot of money spent on one player in the playoffs.
Pass. if 50 mil per is no good to be a Met then see ya

Cohen needs to stop being used. I would come out and say "The Mets have no interest in XXXXX" from here on out so Boras can stop using them to run it up.

Yeah. I’m not expecting Soto to come here, and there’s so much to unpack…..both ways.

For instance. He started to build up a pretty good reputation based on Monty and Porzingis, why “make something up” about Soto, and why make the guarantees that he did?

I mean at this point even if Soto signs here, he was wrong because he said he was signed, sealed and delivered a week ago and all that was left was the press conference….which obviously wasn’t true.

If he was just guessing, he’d have been better off saying something like…my sources say the Sox are in deep on Soto.

Why risk losing credibility by being so descriptive/definitive so early?

Who knows?

All I know is that as long as he doesn’t go to NYY, I’ll be ok with it.

Because credibility doesn't matter to him. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "there's no such thing as bad publicity". That's all this is and he'll keep it going for as long as possible.

Making another team spend more than they want to is good business. Spend too much on certain players and they're out of the running for other ones you might want. Yeah, fans might get annoyed, but as long as he keeps spending money and the team doesn't suck, they won't really care. Even here, you can just blame Boras for the negotiating tactics.

Yeah that's a good point. Yankees wanted to spend 550 mil on him when this started.

For example, let's say you're the Red Sox. The scenarios, by preference, are:
1) He signs with you
2) He signs with the Mets (or some other NL team)
3) He signs with a non-AL East AL team
4) He signs with a non-Yankees AL East team
5) He signs with the Yankees for $750M+
6) He signs with the Yankees on a shorter term, inexpensive deal

You want to find a way to make sure scenario 6 doesn't happen. Everything else is a win by comparison, especially if you know scenario 1 isn't going to happen.

You're happy to do Boras a favor because you're going to want one from him eventually.

I’m hoping if Yankees don’t get they just drop a huge net over 2-3 others

Of the big 4 prospects Mayer would be the one I would deal. I wouldn't give up much more than him though.
Same

Anthony completely untouchable

Teel is a catcher can’t do it

Mayer seems like could be constantly battling something

I’ve somehow got to a point where 750 M scares me but yeh 650 M I’m good with

Ditto. I agree with all of it.

They better not, but my 2 cents are that they would have budged and overpaid for Crochet if they had gotten Soto. Because Crochet could have been on the payroll for only 3m. The extension could have been announced in April during the season. They did something similar with Adrian Gonzalez.

Now that Soto is not happening, neither is Crochet. Mayer would be a dramatic overpay. Cease returned less value than a top 20 prospect.

If the Red Sox pay with prospects instead of pure dollars, I am going to be annoyed.

Easier to sign Fried

Say Yankees lose Soto they probably go after Guerrero or Alonso or Walker & Bregman

Burnes/Fried

Bet they wish they still had Michael King

No matter what, something is brewing. I think at this point the teams already know (that Soto is staying with the Yankees). Announcement should be imminent. Tomorrow the pitching stuff is getting done.

I'd really rather not trade these top prospects at this point. We're past the "lottery ticket" phase in their development and it seems desperate to start selling the prospects when they are close to joining the big club. Mayer in '21 or '22 I would have considered as a potential trade piece in a bigger move, in '24, I'd rather keep him and watch the deep and near MLB-ready prospect pool play out...and buy the players in free agency.
