That's true, but when the risk pays off, an elite pitcher is way more valuable in the post season than an elite hitter.I honestly don't blame them. High priced pitching is always riskier than top hitters.

Thing is if you sign Fried you need D at third. Same with sinkerballers Houck and Bello. If that’s how your building your pitching you have to have a glove at third. When the offseason started, I thought there was a 30-40% chance they'd do something dumb. Feels more like 50% now.
The one positive of the Austerity Sox era has been that there's some comfort they're not going to go out and make Hanley/Sandoval signings or mega win now trade overpayments. I'm good with Fried or Burnes (hell, both), a cheap bat that doesn't involve a QO, and more investment in RPs.
The scary Plan B of signing Bregman (or trading for Arenado), moving Devers to 1st, and trading Abreu and Casas for Crochet is something I'd rather stay far away from.

Been kicking this plan around in my head this morning...You're not wrong, I'd just prefer a solution that doesn't involve overpaying Bregman or trading for Arenado and acquiring a pitcher (who will also require an extension) that has a single season as a starter and arm reliability questions.
If you listen to his podcast it’s wayyyyyyy better than all the experts.I know everyone is shitting on/rooting against the "regular" media guys, but I think they've been so incredulous about Mick because it seems very obvious what has been going on with this guy.
He had it on real authority the Red Sox were absolutely 100% committed to signing Soto (something a lot of media have known) and he figured Boston would have a 1/3 chance of doing just that, so he's been playing the lottery.
If he's "right" BOOM. If he's wrong is he going to lose his job? Be a laughingstock? People very quickly won't care long, but he will still have gained notoriety and more fans/followers.
Campbell I’m betting can play thirdBeen kicking this plan around in my head this morning...
- Pay whatever portion of Yoshida's contract you need to in order to move him.
- Move Devers to full time DH.
- Sign Gio Urshela as a stopgap 3B.
- Tell Marcelo Mayer to start working out at 3B.
It’s pretty fascinating though - keeping me very interested even watching footballThey're going to do something stupid. I can feel it in my bones. (Previously I could only feel it in my skin.)
I'm not convinced he can play 2B, let alone 3B. I don't think he has the arm or the instincts for the hot corner. He might be limited to left field only.Campbell I’m betting can play third

I think Mayer would be an outstanding defensive 3B. And you could keep Trevor Story at SS until Franklin Arias is ready 2-3 years from now.
He is all in
I mean, not really. As @EverettMike said, there are basically no negative repercussions for him. His job isn't to break news, so losing credibility doesn't matter. When Soto signs elsewhere, he could simply say that they had an agreement that Boras/Soto broke or the Mets/Yankees/whoever came in with a last minute offer that couldn't be refused. He could go another direction and say he wanted to show how gullible fans are. The possibilities are endless.
