So if we suck hard enough we'll hopefully drop down and have a shot at 1st overall?
So is this a strong or weak class?

Carbboneau or Mrtka keep coming to mind for me. I would like a centre but how bad do we need one when we have Larkin, Kasper, Danielson, Lombardi, and Finnie. Even if we had the first pick, Schaffer wouldn’t be out of my possibles

You can never have too many centers or defensemen. I agree though that you should not pass on clearly superior wingers just to draft them. We need to be really bad for this draft to be interesting I am afraid. Time will tell though.More like Rasmus Dahlin or Slavkofsky type draft. The 2017 draft was pretty strong in hindsight.
Pettersson, Makar, Heiskanen, Suzuki, Necas, Thomas, Robertson, Batherson, is a decent top end for a draft. Hischer isn't bad either.
Draft the most talented player available. Larkin is still in his prime. Kasper is looking really good. Danielson is looking great. Lombardi is looking really good. Center isn't as big a weakness as some fans here perceive it to be right now.
These guys say the buzz they are hearing from scouts is that it is a below average draft:So if we suck hard enough we'll hopefully drop down and have a shot at 1st overall?

Personally I think there are some good options at forward. Also people thought the 2017 draft was weak and teams still got Makar/Petterson from it, so you never know.
I am a bit more bearish I guess. If McQueen did not have a back injury and Fondel had popped a bit more to date, I might feel differently. I will admit it is still early. I see about six guys I really like, two more that are ok and then a drop. I think we can get a solid top 6 forward, but not necessarily a bona fide first-line talent in that span. This draft has a top 10 that's about as strong as the really strong 2021 top 10, which could be good for Detroit depending on the final standings. The top end talent isn't on par with 2023, but I think a real top line talent could be had in this year's top 10 draft.

There are like 4-5 kids I really like just from the WHL alone.I am a bit more bearish I guess. To each his own. I agree though that it is one of the stronger leagues this season. There are like 4-5 kids I really like just from the WHL alone.
...and they are? There are like 4-5 kids I really like just from the WHL alone.
Which kids/guys are suspected to be this good? When I say first line talent I mean kids that are comparable to Beniers, Guenther, McTavish, Eklund, Sillinger, Stankoven, Johnston level of talent. No one that screams "superstar" but guys that may start out their first 3-4 years in the league in the middle 6 but you see growing into 1st line, 60+ point guys.
It'd be amazing to find the next Pastrnak or Rantanen in this draft, but I don't think that will happen. Maybe the next Robertson or Connor?
Nice list. Only watched Hagens. I think I like Frondel and McQueen from what I've heard from other friends in the business but I legit know nothing about the rest.My attempt at a top 10.
1. Schaefer
2. Hagens
3. Martone
4. Misa
5. Desnoyers
6. McQueen
7. Frondel
8. Carbonneau
9. Eklund
10. J. Smith
...and they are?
