So if we suck hard enough we'll hopefully drop down and have a shot at 1st overall?

So is this a strong or weak class?

With all this tank talk coming out now who are you looking at if we don’t get one of the Fab Four or five picks. Suppose we finish 7 or 8

Carbboneau or Mrtka keep coming to mind for me. I would like a centre but how bad do we need one when we have Larkin, Kasper, Danielson, Lombardi, and Finnie. Even if we had the first pick, Schaffer wouldn’t be out of my possibles

More like Rasmus Dahlin or Slavkofsky type draft. The 2017 draft was pretty strong in hindsight.

Pettersson, Makar, Heiskanen, Suzuki, Necas, Thomas, Robertson, Batherson, is a decent top end for a draft. Hischer isn't bad either.

Draft the most talented player available. Larkin is still in his prime. Kasper is looking really good. Danielson is looking great. Lombardi is looking really good. Center isn't as big a weakness as some fans here perceive it to be right now.

You can never have too many centers or defensemen. I agree though that you should not pass on clearly superior wingers just to draft them. We need to be really bad for this draft to be interesting I am afraid. Time will tell though.

The perception of Draft quality can and often does change quite a bit from November to June. Last year Hockey Prospect had Iginla and Sennecke 13th and 14th OA in their November rankings, Parekh 23rd. They all went in the top 10, 6th, 3rd and 9th respectively. Luchanko was at 32, ended up picked 13th. Lots of other movement from where things seemed in November. Wings just need to keep adding skill, especially up front. Not particularly interested yet in big C Roger McQueen, he's been out for a while with a back injury, but he's another name that could figure in Wings' plan if they pick top 10. He started the season with eight goals in eight games.

These guys say the buzz they are hearing from scouts is that it is a below average draft:

Personally I think there are some good options at forward. Also people thought the 2017 draft was weak and teams still got Makar/Petterson from it, so you never know.

This draft has a top 10 that's about as strong as the really strong 2021 top 10, which could be good for Detroit depending on the final standings. The top end talent isn't on par with 2023, but I think a real top line talent could be had in this year's top 10 draft.

Like I said above, I don't see someone emerging as a true #1 overall pick from this class, but the top 10 looks to be very close to each other in quality. I can see a guy like Martone going #1 to as far as #6. Misa could be the same. Frondell could be #4 or he could be #10.

I am a bit more bearish I guess. If McQueen did not have a back injury and Fondel had popped a bit more to date, I might feel differently. I will admit it is still early. I see about six guys I really like, two more that are ok and then a drop. I think we can get a solid top 6 forward, but not necessarily a bona fide first-line talent in that span.

When I say first line talent I mean kids that are comparable to Beniers, Guenther, McTavish, Eklund, Sillinger, Stankoven, Johnston level of talent. No one that screams "superstar" but guys that may start out their first 3-4 years in the league in the middle 6 but you see growing into 1st line, 60+ point guys.

It'd be amazing to find the next Pastrnak or Rantanen in this draft, but I don't think that will happen. Maybe the next Robertson or Connor?

There are like 4-5 kids I really like just from the WHL alone.

He’s jockeying for 1OA, so I doubt we even have the chance to draft him, but Schaefer would be a dream. I think we actually could still use more offense than defense, but a top 4 of Mo/Ed/Schaefer/ASP is just filthy.

I think you look at guys like Martone and misa and they look like absolute keys to the puzzle for the wings. MBH is a good complimentary player but he isn’t likely to be a big superstar wing, misa and martone both have this ability. But we have to truly suck to get one of these guys. Really, we just have to pray one of Danielson and kasper is good enough to replace Larkin when he inevitably falls off.

Which kids/guys are suspected to be this good?

Nice list. Only watched Hagens. I think I like Frondel and McQueen from what I've heard from other friends in the business but I legit know nothing about the rest.

...and they are?
