2025 - 2026 Niagara Icedogs (Off)Season Thread, Part V

Another issue is seems like what I said about Roobroeck is true as confirmed by OHL4life and its London or NCAA. That will limit our return by a lot. I don’t see us getting more than 3 2nd and 3rds maybe a prospect but not a lot.

How are we going to be competitive is the question. Our forward depth is awful, Our Dcore is much improved with a lot of tall guys but still very much a developmental Dcore. Even if we target 4 Forwards in these first 41 picks maybe 2 of them will be ohl quality for next year. We should tank, let all 4 play and develop for a year like brampton did. Trade vets at the deadline.

Brampton had their vets leading TOI until mid-season. The icedogs will be without Czata & Roobroek from the start; so Read, Hull, Smith, Galiyanov will need to play a lot allowing the rookies time to adjust to the OHL.

That’s how i’d do it. Have edgar, our first round pick this year and smith play our second line Hull, Read, Galiyanov our first. Defensively have Spencer, Reisnecker, Potentially Cheynowski play big minutes. Work in bell, Naish and whoever else we get.

Edgar probably will be the best forward on the team he should be 1st line.

Bell I could see top 4 from start but we will see.

Edgar played better when he wasn’t against the opponents top matchup. I would use him on a second line at least to start the year since the offensive talent won’t be there beside him. He’s by far the best forward but why waste him. At least that’s how I look at it.

Bell is someone I don’t want to rush. He had an adjustment period with the falcons this year then had a good couple months after that initial adjustment. He should start with a cheynowski type of vet who can help him develop at the start of the year. The pace of play is so different so it’ll be important that he can have the vet presence

Definitely would be disappointed a bit with the return if I was a Niagara fan. Lewandowski is nice but the picks leave a lot to be desired.

The challenge that Dogs fans have come to understand is that these players are not making it easy/. When a player says I want to go here or I will play NCAA then the team really does not have much of a choice, and yes, the deals will be less than they would be at the deadline. However, you really can't blame the players. Roobreck is looking at a coach and GM who have proven little, versus going to a top-10 NCAA organization to play for the guy who created Marner and Cowan.

Which would you choose

Question that popped into my raccoon brain along with a couple of warm nights. Is Degray there because he is a good GM, or because he is the right price and the league knew the new OS owners did not want him?

Roobroeck had that option. Czata can't go NCAA

Really does not matter if the player says I want to be traded to team X and you agree to it. Once the player has stated publicly what he wants, that is really the end of the game.

I am not saying it is right and all GM's know they may have to deal with this at some point, so they don't try to screw the other team, but then again, they are not going to give what they would have had to if there was a bidding war.

I agree that if there was a bidding war for these guys, Niagara would have gotten more, but there wasn't. It is the same thing as Wasslyn last year.

Unfortunately, until they get this broken-down circus called the Ice Dongs sorted out, players are not going to want to play there if they have a different choice.

Let's face it, until DDD is in the rearview mirror and a new owner has had a year to prove that they mean business and know what they are doing, Niagara is going to have a hard time keeping drafted players.

Do we know how long Degray is signed to be the GM

There is no indication that Czata picked a team. I think he just wanted to go to a contender.

I know Degray signed multi-year. He is there for a while

I can see that if there was no one else then of course Degray pops up. Boyd did make some good recruiting and had good coaches in Ottawa, so it would not be a total loss. But hoping Degray proves the team is not a complete waste of money.
boyd was just keeping the train on the tracks for a few weeks. i think degray and co will at least get things back where they have a decent team. say what you will but that os team is their work, and it may push for a championship
