bummer could not read the article.

The -18 is 8 Jun, and let's face it, not many kids make the teams. That said the scouts or Barch chould be able to handle that.

The big event is the week after in Kingston. Not only do you have to have staff in place, but you need to have the team looking professional. Used to be that skate size questions about what is expected, and a little getting to know players is done that weekend. You'll also need to update your list based on who didn't get picked the first night.

The delay could be that whoever is looking after the search (we hope the OHL) still have people whose teams are still active.

or to play devils advocate it could be the worst case scenario is causing a bit of an arm wrestle behind the scenes. DDD is ready to hire his boy and the league is pushing back...

I feel for Niagara fans but I'm honestly to the point with this I feel the league made their bed and now they laying in it...

Did the article really mention Barch wanting both Head and GM titles?

I’ve been at this point since before last summer’s “investigation”
I mean this outcome was entirely predictable to anyone who has casually followed junior B or C at all in the recent past. Surely the Ontario Hockey League has at least a bit of a pulse on what's happening in those loops..

No, and I was not saying that. What I was saying was that the U18 is so trivial that he could probably handle it, BUT they definitely need someone in charge by the 11th

Yes, that was most of the article.

“Yeah, I would put my name in for both GM and coach,” the one-time National Hockey League player answered after some thought.

and:

DeDobbelaer, who owns the IceDogs along with his wife Michele, said he would be open to considering Barch for the general manager’s position and, for that matter, both positions.
“Krys is in the mix for everything,” he said. “I thought he provided good structure and taught the players to be pros.”

I wouldn't put too much stock into what is being stated publicly. It was reported to me that the email firing staff a week ago gave as justification that they had a new general manager who already had their own staff in place. Why the delay then?

There is nothing in the article about that. In fact, its completely opposite.

OHL communications director Josh Sweetland said until a new general manager is hired, IceDogs hockey operations will be overseen by Wes Consorti, who served as GM before being succeeded by Evola. Sweetland added that the league will be involved in a new general manager’s appointment.
“I’m working with the league on everything right now,” DeDobbelaer said.

“Yeah, I would put my name in for both GM and coach,” the one-time National Hockey League player answered after some thought.
To accomplish that, Barch acknowledged he would need a “strong support cast,” including someone to assist with scouting and an “assistant GM” to handle the paperwork.
As far as Barch is concerned, spending more time “connecting with the community” is a key part of heading hockey operations for an OHL team.
“I think that’s an important element, getting to charity events and being a face that can connect with the community,” he told The Standard. “With the hockey culture already in place, I think I would be able to handle it.”

Barch said he would be open to remaining with the team in either capacity or in both.
“I would gladly man an oar and/or captain the ship. I have been team-first-, character- and compete-focused my entire career,” he said. “In the end, I would take on any role the organization asked me to.

exactly, despite ownership sending an email to the staff last week saying they were being let go because they had hired a new GM who had his own staff. I think that goes to the heart of the earlier tweet about the way some of the veteran staff who had come over from other teams were treated/notified in this situation. It's just a bad look all around.

I mean the “email” could've been true until the league said we have to approve it then things changed

Have you not figured this out yet? The game plan for the family has always been to pass the keys to junior going back to the day he purchased the team. Collateral damage along the way is irrelevant.

But what parent wants to hand their kid the keys to the Titanic? Fans are already upset with the league now that the talent is weakening as kids leave early for college, then you compound it by continually looking like a clown show off the ice. London's probably licking their chops to see how many other players they can get on the cheap as kids/agents push to get off the sinking ship.

Nothing says family support like overpaying for a franchise, running it into the ground and then turning it over to a relative.

I totally agree. Although I think junior will have to wait at least a year before he gets to be GM.

The St. Catharines Standard article states:

“Yeah, I would put my name in for both GM and coach,” the onetime National Hockey League player answered after some thought.

So Barch gets named GM and Head Coach. This saves DD some cash. DD names his son Asst GM and he also helps Barch with scouting. A season or two later, Barch is fired and DD makes the argument that it is only fair to give the Asst GM a shot at the GM position.

The OHL head office might as well pack up and leave if they allow batch to do both or to act as gm. He has 0 experience and 0 cred as a coach let alone GM.

There's no way teams like London and Kitchener would allow it.

I think it’s cute people still think the league gives a 💩 you’re right on the Kitchener and London thing but DDD isn’t the owner there

a parent to genuinely thinks he’s doing a good job still probably
It's not that they think he is doing a good job they board teh Titanic if it is the only ship that will ever go to the U.S.

In this case it is Lance gets drafted by Niagara in the 2-5 round. Where else can he play other than the USHL He will never play in the OHL if he does not go to Niagara.

First round usually have a choice later have no real choice at all.

I thought that comment was more about DDD wanting to hand the keys of the ORG down to his kid and nothing to do with kids getting drafted but maybe I misunderstood
