Me, too.Hopefully Russia will be good to go by then. I'd like to see Ovechkin suit up for Russia one more time.

Hmm.. 18 months from now... Czechs won't be a medal threat but I think they can field a hell of a team. I will leave out Euro's and make a few assumptions (eg. picking some guys that aren't in the NHL full time yet)
C: Hertl, Krejci, Kampf, Faksa,
W: Necas, Pastrnak, Voracek, Palat, Kubalik, Chytil, Vrana, Kulich, Zadina, Blumel, Zohorna
D: Hronek, Gudas, Rutta, Simek, Klok (Just found out today he signed in Arizona!), Jiricek, Galvas, Kral, Zboril
G: Vanecek, Francouz, Vejmelka, Dostal
Notables (for us) left out: Svozil, Zacha, Mrazek, Kempny, Jagr, Vladar, Plekanec, Kvitova and Sablikova, Jenik, Lauko, Kaut, Cervenka, Kovar, Nosek, Sustr, Hajek, O. Kase
I mean, there are roughly 30 skaters and 6 to 8 NHL goalies so picking a Czech team is kind of easy! We don't have wave upon wave of NHL players like the Big 4! And sablikova can skate!
Ha, ha.I'm really excited for this tournament, but the moment they decide there's U50 Team Africa and other complete jokes, I'm instantly out.
I'd like to see Ovechkin suit up for Russia one more time.
Every game Ovechkin or other players suit up in the Russian jersey while other players are forcibly conscripted for sham reasons in Russia is a disgrace if allowed to happen
No weakness on this roster... solid at all the positions.A potential Tre Kronor roster:
Forsberg - Zibanejad - Raymond
Landeskog - Lindholm - EP40
Kempe - Bäckström - Nylander
W. Karlsson - Eriksson Ek - Arvidsson
Bratt
HM: Burakovsky, Holtz, Olofsson, Rakell, Eklund, Backlund, Lundeström
Hedman - Brodin
Dahlin - R. Andersson
Lindholm - Klingberg
E. Karlsson (big questionmark of course. Will he decline more or bounce back?)
HM: Edvinsson, Ekholm, OEL, Kylington, Forsling, Boqvist, A. Larsson, Liljegren, Söderström
Markström
Lehner
Ullmark
HM: A. Forsberg, F. Gustavsson, Wallstedt
Not too bad. Should end up anywhere from 2nd to 4th.
I don't think they have. When's the last time Russia made a best on best final 1998. Its been a minute
I am sure not a single one of your conditions will be met by that time. Russia won't be a part of this tournament. It would be great, if Russia could play there again. Personally, I would welcome it, as long as the following happens:
1. They stop what they’re doing
2. They return the state of affairs to how they were before they started doing what they are doing (2014).
3. They pay massive reparations for what they are doing
4. They deliver all those responsible for what they are doing to justice
If all that is true, I would start considering bringing them back. Gonna keep my fingers crossed.
Otherwise, I would bring Canada, US, Finland, Sweden, Czechs, Germans, Swiss and Slovaks. 8 teams. I would’t mind Denmark or Latvia either, but can live without them.
Exactly. And rightly so.I am sure not a single one of your conditions will be met by that time. Russia won't be a part of this tournament.
That's the way it is. The special operation will go on for many years. Participating in sport events, or some nato cup, is of very little importance in comparison.Exactly. And rightly so.
Will Russia be able to compete? It’s not an IOC event
Teams: Canada, Sweden, Russia, USA, Finland, Czech, Swiss, Germany, Slovakia and then a play in tournament for the last spot would be my preference.
I'm worried about Team A, let alone Team B.Can someone make a roster of a hypotethical Team Canada B? I have no clue who players would be there. Kyrou? Doughty? Thomas? Batherson? etc. 2 Teams from Canada should be tested at some point.
Well I start:
A.-TEAM
Point - McDavid - Marner
Huberdeau - Barzal - MacKinnon
O´Reilly - Crosby - Marchand
Stamkos - Cirelli - Stone
Kadri, Dubois
Toews - Makar
Theodore - Pietrangelo
Chychrun - Ekblad
Nurse - Weegar
Kuemper - Binnington - Jarry
B-TEAM
Mangiapane - Henrique - Batherson
Lafreniere - Thomas - Kyrou
Comtois - Suzuki - Brown
Crouse - Jenner - Konency
Toffoli, Couturier
Chabot - Hamilton
Severson - Tanev
Pelech - Pulock
Ferrario - Walker
Hart - Blackwood - Driedger
Im not an expert of building these lines so FEEL FREE TO DISAGREE. I didint add junior players yet.
With those rosters I can see B-TEAM flopping at least but anything can happen at a short tournament,
For any other team Team Canada B would offer many problems. It would be actually cool to have them.
Why no Krejci? Retired in 2024? Too old?My very preliminary Czech Roster projection, including a few current prospects and assuming they will progress well with their development. Also includes some veteran players (Voráček, Gudas), assuming they will be still playing top professional hockey in early 2024, which is of couse not certain.
G: Vaněček, Vejmelka, Dostál
D: Hronek, Zbořil, Král, Jiříček, Klok, Gudas, Šimek, Hájek
F: Pastrňák, Hertl, Palát, Blümel, Zacha, Nečas, Vrána, Voráček, Chytil, Zadina, Kämpf, Kubalík, Jeník, Kulich.
You have waaaay to many old playersHard to pick a team 18 months away but for me Canada would be this
Line 1: Stamkos-McDavid-Huberdeau
Three 100 point players with a top tier goal scorer and top tier playmaker along for the ride with the best player in the world (I was tempted to go with Tom Wilson on McDavid’s wing, but he need to cement himself as a more consistent 70+ point plus player to have a chance)
Line 2: Crosby-MacKinnon-Marchand
Instant chemistry as all three of these players train together, this line assumes that Bergeron has since retired. Can play in all situations and should overwhelm opponents that try to line match against the McDavid top line
Line 3: Marner-Point-Kyrou
Sprint relay team. Marner and Point also useful penalty killers. Can be used as a matchup line as Point and Marner have very good defensive ability
Line 4: Cirelli-O’Reilly-Thomas
So many great defensive options to chose from. Had a hard time leaving out Danault, Mangiapane, Bergeron (assuming he’s not retired) or Couturier, but ultimately Cirelli and O’Reilly are top 5 defensive forwards in the league and Thomas has proven over the last 12 months that he’s an top tier playmaker and matchup centreman. Quite the overwhelming 4th line
Also under consideration:
Barzal, Dubois, Batherson, Couturier, Scheifele, Mangiapane, Bergeron, Stone
Pair 1: Toews-Makar
Best pair in the league and best défenseman in the league who just won a Stanley Cup together. No further explanation needed
Pair 2: Chabot-Ekblad
Excellent puck moving pair and rush leading pair. Some concerns about Chabot’s in zone play but when he’s not playing 27 mins a night he’s proven to be excellent. Ekblad might be second only to Makar in goal scoring ability from the blue blue
Pair 3: Theodore-Doughty
Thought long avoir with going with Byram instead of Theodore here (especially in 18 months) but for now Theodore’s excellent last few seasons prior to this past down season keep him in contention. When healthy Doughty can still put up points and less the rush, his absence was noticeable in the first round against Edmonton
Also under consideration: Bryam, Létang, Pietrangelo, Dobson, Weegar, Pelech, Pulock, Hamilton, Reilly, Nurse
Goaltenders
Binnington
Jarry
Kuemper
This is a weak group. Binnington has shown he can carry a team but needs to be more consistent. Jarry had a breakout season but needs to prove it wasn’t a fluke. Kuemper was mediocre in the playoffs despite winning the cup. Without Price the goalie issues have become apparent for Canada
Recap
A stacked group up front filled with every attribute, a high end défense group that perhaps lacks stay at home names but has elite puck moving and overwhelming offensive options, and weak goaltending. Whilst in Beijing this team would have been a clear favourite, until better goaltending emerges they are only slight or cofavourites in my opinion. Hopefully Sakic is named GM
