Adam Peters cooked. He traded Dotson, Ridgeway, and a 4th for Lattimore and a 5th. And the 3rd he kept is 20 picks higher than their own 3rd, plus the Saints 5th won't be that far off from their own 6th.

This gets Mikey back into the slot and BSJ on WR2, so really this trade fixes three positions on the defense. Terrific piece of business by AP and team.

The 3rd is ours, not Miami’s (which we got for Dotson)…..

And the 4th is also ours … which is looking like *at worst* 15 picks better than the Saints 5th. So while it’s not ideal, it’s not punting that entire part of the draft.

The 6th — didn’t recall we’d gotten that for Ridgeway.

So net net? Dotson, Ridgeway for 10-15 slots better in the 3rd, 10-15 slots worse in 4th/5th, for an All Pro CB in his prime with TWO more seasons under contract — and that’s IF we want to pay him. No more guaranteed money.

I don’t see it as a steep price, but that’s just me

31.4M cap hit next year .. Saints converted salary to bonus each of the past 2 years, pushing the cap pain to future years and had to add void years ...

I assume we try and re-sign him to restructure things ..

Interesting to see how the FO manages this contract situation, im sure they have a plan

in AP we trust
Yeah but we don’t own that cap conversion. They do. He doesn’t cost us anything re: Cap, unless we decide to pay him the 16m next year.

His guarantees stayed in NOLA. There is literally NO bad money on our side (again, unless we choose to pay him)

Appears Wiki has the wrong game log info, he's played 7 games and missed two this year, but he was out the last game. When he has played, his stats don't show much, but I haven't watched to see if he's not being thrown at or if he's being thrown successfully at?
If you read any trade grades — fancy stats shows he’s been one of the best CB’s this year in yards per attempt (against), which would slot down/replace St Juste, who has been one of the worst.

This is not a small add here, like at all. Assuming he can play and the injury is no biggie

Was torn on this trade initially, based on injuries and dollars. But Lattimore walks in the door as our best corner, significantly improves our biggest weakness and gives us a guy for 2 more years with cost locked in (even if it is high.)

The picks we gave up were 100% not going to improve us this year and 98% were not going to improve our chances at a SB (yeah, I said it) in '25 and '26.

Ideally we will improve on BSJ this offseason, but we're a hell of a lot better off trying to replace a #2 CB than a #1.

Giddyup!

This is the important piece. we fix three problems with one move. I actually like BSJ and he is right there even when he gets beat. So many times this year he has been right there but couldn’t dislodge the ball. he will fare much better on CB2. And moving Agent 0 to slot is big as well.

Does that 3rd round pick also include his handgun and his medical staff?

Hard pass, poor health and head issues.
lol sorry I manifested it….

The saints actually already restructured lattimore's contract so we get him for much less this year
Yes only like 1.2 mil I read…..if he’s good, I think they rework his deal and keep him eventually.

Really like this move. You can’t just ignore 7-2, and assume we’ll be able to replicate it next year (with a much harder schedule). It’s a good message to the team that they’ve earned a shot to make a push this year.

And it’s not a rental, and he’s 28. 16.5M next year is actually fine for a legit lockdown corner. In AP we trust!

I believe the Saints eat that bonus hit and we're only on the hook for his salary over the next few years? I'll double check.
I read that elsewhere….Saints take that hit.

Steep price but i like it. Obviously helps that they got that 3rd for Dotson.

There is a reason why every top team wanted this guy.

I like the move. Why not go for it this year?

The only team in the NFC I'd say is definitely better than DC is Detroit. They have a real shot to do some damage this year.

So that is it right? TDL has passed? Seems like we like our team for most part outside of CB which was an urgent need and we aggressively acted. But seems clear that next year will be Y2 of the “rebuild”. I suspect another busy offseason. But picking up Lattimore does position us for a run this year. Which is crazy. Football so different than hockey!

I feel okay about that part of it because I don't think AP makes the trade if he was teetering on missing significant time. He has to play and play well this season for this trade to make any sense, so I'm pretty confident that AP has a handle on his medical situation.

I think Detroit is so much better than the rest of the NFC, and probably at this moment the best team in football. But I agree, go for a splash if you’re the Commanders, especially with this being the beginning of a new era and there being such excitement around the team. Have to bet on yourself sometimes.
