Bruins not a good team. But Leafs will make them look like world beaters.
The bruins always get up for us.
They love love beating us.

An excellent team huh? Living in the past isn't particularly productive. They haven't been an excellent team this year.

That likely doesn't stop them from beating us... we aren't very good right now either.

From the Boston game thread.... an accurate description of both teams..

Two flawed teams, both stumbling and trying to find their feet in the early stretches of the season. Both probably surprised that previous cornerstones of the franchise - defense for one, offense for the other - have suddenly been difficult to re-establish.
2 games on the wknd 2 shut outs

Sucks to see Matthews out... Wonder if this is new or something that's been bothering him the last couple weeks.
If there was any time to try Nylander at center, now would be it, so it seems that that experiment is dead.

Domi and Marner might not last if they get behind and nothing happening. Give Robertson a set up man if they need to throw caution to the wind in 3rd

Before the season started, I really wanted him traded because he provides 0 offence come playoff time whether it’s on the 1st or 3rd line

Problem is our depth options can’t produce even in the regular season, which is something he could do

We might actually need him in a third line role.

Our depth has been the worse since 2015 in my opinion. Bottom 6 has combined 6 goals. 3 by McMann and 2 by Lorentz. 1 by Robertsson
That's horrible in so many ways

There's absolutely no way we can go into playoffs with that kind of production. Jarnkrok and Dewar can't come back soon enough
Kampf and Reaves are absolute blackholes, Holmberg has no goals either

Holmberg and Robertsson has been disspointments. Robby is on pace for like 5 goals this year if he plays 80 games

Leafs have 4 of the top 12 highest Cap Hit / AAV players in the league and that is the price you pay to team depth by heavy overspending on the core 4.

Those core 4 consume 53% of Leafs total cap and with the raises to AM and WN added to the final year of JT and MM this makes Leafs depth cap space the least its ever been and certainly the least among all other 31 teams.

I don't think anyone should expect much in the way of offense from Jarnkrok and Dewar in the playoffs....

Leafs have some big cap hits, but those 4 have factored into 82% of the team's goals this year. We have enough cap space left over that we should be getting more than we are.

But we can expect something from them now

Jarnkrok is a 15-20 30-40 point player and dewar in for Reaves/Holmberg is a huge upgrade as he is also a 20ish point player

It cannot be overstated how bad our depth is rn.

I expect a solid game tonight. Leafs will have a better team atmosphere tonight for unknown reasons.

Well, just think of the implication. If we have 4x players making a shade under to well over $11 million, shouldn’t we be outgunning Boston 4 to 1 in terms of having David Pastrnak level players? I’ll give you 3 to 1 with Tavares on the decline. Yeah. Not even close. You could even make the argument David Pastrnak is consistently better than our best player. He’s a 60 goal scorer in his own right, his 2 offensive seasons are better and he’s got double the playoff production.

Our most expensive depth piece in Domi has the least goals of our depth pieces, almost as if money spent on depth doesn’t correlate to the quality of that depth.

Both teams are maxed out so it’s all equal. we could say their goalie makes more than twice what our goalie makes so he is more than twice as good

End of the day, it’s frustrating to think the once young Leafs rebuild has been trying to catch up to Boston’s mediocre veteran build for what feels like a decade. And at their worst they are still slightly ahead and this era of the Leafs has already peaked.

Yeah I get it just having more money to spend on 28-30 year old depth UFAs doesn’t seem like a relevant component to fixing that problem.

Bottom line is the dollar cost average on what the Leafs pay is suboptimal with a very thin margin of error at all levels.

Big guns make glamour money, but across the league in comparison with the Big 4, there’s always someone around the league getting better value. Like NYR gets more out of Panarin than the Leafs with Marner or Tavares. Edmonton gets more out of Draisaitl than Matthews. Colorado gets more out of Mackinnon than Matthews. Pastrnak is always in the Nylander ballpark for salary but he’s competitive with Matthews. Florida and Tampa are literally playing by different rules.

The only place where Toronto has done pretty well is get serviceable mileage out of their cheap goalies. But even that falls apart once the stress test of the playoffs happens.

It's more frustrating that it will take about 10 years for them to start the next rebuild.
