Interestingly enough, that's not far off from the way Jansen's career went the first few years. Catchers are often complicated and at least seem to take more time to develop offensively because there's so much more they have to focus on compared to every other position.

Jansen had a couple poor offensive years but the trends on Kirk are alarming :

EV
2020 - 95.0
2021 - 92.3
2022 - 90.5
2023 - 87.6
2024 - 85.9

Hard-hit %
2020 - 50.0
2021 - 46.9
2022 - 45.5
2023 - 38.5
2024 - 24.1

Obviously it's small sample sizes this year but this is a guy who came up absolutely lashing line drives all over the field who is now putting up peripherals like a light-hitting pure defensive SS.

*Something* is happening with him at the plate and it isn't good. It's not like he looks lost at the plate like Jansen did at times - his approach seems good, takes a lot of walks, rarely strikes out. He's just completely lost all his power/pop.

Tyler O’Neill is currently the best hitter in baseball. Obviously he’s not this good, but the underlying numbers showed he was due to hit much better than his last couple of years to go along with good defence in LF.

Imagine if we traded for him instead of re-sign KK.
Everyone is hitting in Boston even Reese McGuire ;)
