Boston would sooner let Swayman go for nothing than trade him for Elvis. And for me personally I'd rather release Swayman for nothing than sign him to that deal.

My response was a little tongue-in-cheek. But, I'm not sure Swayman and Bruins management can mend bridges and there's not many teams where a goalie trade involving that expected contract is feasible.

#CBJ have been informed by NHL/NHLPA today that they won’t need to be compliant with the agreed upon salary cap floor by Oct. 7, when NHL rosters set for the 2024-25 season.

It is a thread but the key details:

Columbus made a $2M signing bonus to Johnny Gaudreau in July, as per his contract. That money will be included in their salary cap figure.

The league is waiving the Oct. 7 deadline to reach the floor of $65M, with the expectation they’ll get there in a “reasonable time.”

Columbus are now projected to be roughly $1.4M under the cap floor of $65M. That can easily be achieved given Waddell’s desire to add a veteran NHL forward via trade or the waiver wire.

This means you can do it right now but you need to make legit efforts to do so and cannot sit below all season unless absolutely necessary.

I'm sure part of the presentation and requests to do so also includes what resaonable efforts have been made up to this point. I've contended since the beginning this team needed to do whatever they could to meet the minimum and just couldn't sit back assuming an exception would be granted.

The most sensible decision. I wonder if there's a proper deadline given behind the scenes, or a soft waiver for the whole season as long as nobody complains or so. Can't really see the harm here given the circumstances and it being a non-replicable situation for most teams.

Edit: To put it simply, I'm of the opinion we probably wouldn't need to do anything from this point forward. Given Waddell's thinking it won't come to that so it'll be moot, but I doubt there's much "effort" that the league would actually require.

I watched the games with Johnson. I like Kent a lot, he plays more confident (at least for me), he's stronger. I hope this will help him use his great talent. I also like Fantilli and Mateychuk with Voronkov. Dima seems faster to me, he has better acceleration. We'll see how the season goes. Still, preseason games are something else.

Sorry Harris, but Mateychuk is better.

Werenski (27), Severson (30)
Provorov (27), Jiříček (21)
Mateychuk (20), Gudbranson (32)
-----
Harris (24), Christiansen (25)

I think

I like our defense, really. 👌🏻

P.S. be realists, Jiříček will play in Columbus, not Cleveland.

People need to set rosters by Monday so maybe a move is to be made before potentially waiving someone or working to created some cap space.

The weekend could be interesting or it could be nothing.
There are going to be teams with hard decisions on cut down day. That will mean either a nice option on the waiver wire or a deal to be made for an asset with an asset kicker to allow teams to save a player from being waived that they want to keep. I think there will be no shortage of options and my preference would be for a guy on the cusp of making a really good roster, but young enough to potentially add to the depth and possible core with the CBJ. Could get NHL minutes and possibly be a longer term guy. A guy like Francois Beauchemin... What a waiver steal he would have been if not traded for Federov.

And by guy like him, I mean age, potential, opportunity (not necessarily a D-man with his skill set - not that it would be bad).

i know people want to avoid it because two young players together isn't ideal, but tbh i think the best way to arrange the pairs is to just put mateychuk and jiricek together. their games compliment each other quite well and their best performance of the preseason came when they were playing together.

against a much stronger blues lineup the other night, they were above 70% CF (72.22 for jiricek, 82.05 for mateychuk) at 5v5.

not saying it'll stay that way the whole season, but it's absolutely worth a trial run.

even by hfboards standards, saying they should waive their second best defenseman to avoid losing their eighth best defenseman on waivers is some real galaxy brain stuff

I don’t think he is their second best defensemen. He is not a good defender and he is an an inconsistent offensive player. He brings no toughness and has nothing to add for power plays or penalty kills.

If you can move Provorov to the right side:

Werenski - Provorov
Harris - Jiricek
Mateychuk//Christiensen - Gudbranson
JMFJ

Werenski and Jiricek in the power plays.

Werenski-Provorov
Harris-Gudbranson

on the penalty kills.

Yeah, I'm going to need you to prove this wild argument. With actual facts, not just vibes.

I also don't think getting a temporary waiver to remain below the salary cap is free license to drop that cap it any lower.
