First goal is 100% on Rinzel but he has to save that 2nd one. You can't have your five hole wide open on a soft deflection right in front of the net.

They've only played twice in the SFs and US has won both of them.
That said, Finland is the last team you want to gift a 2 goal lead in the 1st period.

2nd goal seemed to break the confidence. They carried the play sans those 2 turnovers before that but looked horrible after it. Let's see if they can regroup in the intermission.
Finland has always been difficult for US. Seniors or U20s. Their style of play is kryptonite and too often they fall to same traps against them. Finland is a team. USA is a bunch of inviduals. Carle got his shot and he failed. Once again our coaching staff is losing 100-0.

Hutson is a perfect image of this team. That is a reason why 04s failed to win gold despite all the talent.

Finland is difficult for everyone. They're the most consistent federation in terms of putting together an intentional style and every opposition team falls victim to them on occasion.
In the WJC since 2003, the US is 11/16 against Finland, and an even 4/8 in knockout games.
Finland may punch above their weight consistently but it's not like it's just at the US's expense.
We need to do a better job of establishing the 2nd layer of our forecheck. Too many times did we send in one guy to chase the Finns out and they just skated it out into open space because our 2nd layer was late.
Once we start doing that, this game will change quickly.

Sure but 2 of those 4 losses are from when the US just started to matter in this tournament.
It was a bad 1st period. And if they lose it'll be a monumental failure of a tournament. The opponent being Finland has nothing to do with it.
We have enough talent but we don't have good enough coaching and system to win as often we should with the talent we have. My fear was that they are going to struggle against a system like Finland has because they haven't been organized at all. Carle let them play and it may be enough againts weaker opposition but not when it matters.
