WJC: 2024 Team Canada Roster Talk - Part 1

He hasn't been great but if you think he was the worst forward today then maybe take off the beer goggles.

Who was worse?

I have said I think the biggest problem is that he is being overplayed in a role that doesn’t suit him. That isn’t on him and makes him stand out, in a bad way, than others but he was given the most ice time and did nothing with it that is a massive problem.

That is right - no one. I would like the coach to give pice time based on merit.
Eliminating pp and pk for simplicity's sake. Player A gets 31 shifts and gives you nothing, playerB gets 8 shifts and gives you nothing... I'd be inclined to give more opportunity to player B as player A has had ample.

Meh, IDK about that.

Celebrini needs to get 20+ minutes.
Rehkopf should be up there as well.

I don't think Canada is great but they certainly arent that bad. The coaching has been awful so far.
Just wanted to ask if anyone knew why Rehkopf didn't get much ice time today? Coaching or did he make mistakes?

It definitely isn’t a Canada team that is as strong as it usually is. Canada is always missing players to the NHL but this year more extreme than usual.

Bedard
Fantilli
Wright
Kirchinski
Benson

Like, Jeesh.

Their next best D-man Luneau was looking to be the horse back there for them and he got sick. Molendyk hurt.

Believe me, we know. :(

But, IF we win, think of how good it will feel.

I was wondering that, too.

How many Canadian players produced offence against Sweden? Obviously, the players who produced the offence should have the ice time. In a two zero loss. I would like to see how other Canadian players produced more offence than he did.
What actual scoring chances did he produce or even come close to capitalizing on despite the highest ice time?

In both games against teams that actually matter, he’s been utterly invisible

It's moot. This is the team we brought and they will either produce, or not produce, going forward. Just support the kids who gave up Christmas with their family.

Canada's game vs Germany s the LEAST interesting game on NYE.

Assuming the Swiss beat Norway, the Swiss/Czechia game will determine 3rd and 4th place in Pool B - it will also determine Canada's opponent - Go Swiss Go !!!!

Sweden and Finland is always interesting.

U.S. / Slovakia will be worth getting up early for.

Canada/Germany.... meh.

What time is Canada - Germany?

I'm going to assume the Swiss beat Latvia, tomorrow.
IF the Swiss beat Germany on NYE, we would end up playing the Swiss in the Quarters and Sweden would get Czechia. I can live with that. :)

**

The U.S. has a tougher path if they win :

Finland / likely Canada in semis / likely Sweden in the GMG

If the U.S. loses :

Germany / likely Sweden in the semis / possibly Canada in the GMG.

What time is Canada - Germany?
1:30 EST.

Oh, that is 3:30am new years day for me. I am gonna miss it unless I am still up.

Thank you!

Not sure if we can talk about this (if not, please delete) but...

DraftKings is giving Slovakia next to no chance of beating the U.S...

USA -650
Slovakia +425

Sports Interaction is giving Slovakia even LESS of a chance.
Bodog has Slovakia at +550.

Might be worth throwing $100 down on Slovakia because those odds are crazy.

**********************************************************

After today's game, Sweden and the U.S. are 3 to 1 odds of winning the tournament. Canada is now 4 to 1.

People need to relax. Sweden played a perfect game defensively. Can they continue that as the pressure of winning at home builds and their history of choking in this tournament hits them in the face? Canada needs to play harder and quicker and for God’s sake hit the effin’ net. They made it too easy for Sweden.

I know threepeating is extremely unlikely oversees and with so many subtractions from the team. But don't embarrass us. I feel like they did on the offensive side of the puck. They looked lost. Sweden are good but Canada shouldn't be that hopeless. This team would be lucky to get bronze.

Poitras and Savoie are major letdowns. Dumais is not doing anything. The defense is not good enough.
Dumais is proving why stat watching never tells the he whole story.

He’s utterly dominant in the Q when he gets the right matchups, better than almost anyone I’ve watched (I see a lot of Halifax games) but against the best players he can be shutdown fairly easily because he plays such a perimeter game and can’t seem to adapt his game very well.

It’s part of the reason he didn’t do nearly as well in the post season last year as well when he had some elite junior defensive players to cover him.

Very similar to another undersized Q player who put up eye popping numbers in junior but was also shutdown come the post season in Conor Garland. He then went on to be terrible his first year in the AHL until he reinvented his game to be a pest and really dig for pucks around the net which opened up more of his game. Hopefully Dumais takes notes.

It certainly hurts us but others are missing players as well.
It just is what it is. Happens every year. Next man up.
The team is still really good on paper. On any given day they could beat anyone.
You put the loss behind you, make adjustments and play again.
