We'll be fine. We always are. :)

Remember, Canadians always <bleep> on our teams. Always. We always saying everyone else is better and we're garbage. It's the Canadian way.

Oh, I know we will be fine, big thing with this team is going to be a good coaching staff, if they get that they should be o.k

Don't be shocked if Sweden wins Gold at home.
The round robin bandits?

Say it ain't so!!

The Sweden team won the U-18's against a superior American team in 2022. Sweden was the better team in the 2023 GMG but lost in O.T. - the Americans scored in the last minute and won in O.T. (IIRC). Combine those 2 Swedish teams, at home, and they should be a force.

Of course, the tournament would be much more interesting with Russia - but that's for another thread.

I was just having a little fun, I know they will have a real good team next year, I watched those games you mentioned here.

In 2021, we had the better team and the Americans beat us in the GMG. We owe them one - we need to win one as an underdog. Maybe that will be this Christmas. :)

Fly under the radar (as much as Canada can), lose a game in the Round Robin, grow together as a team and hope our strong D and youthful O can pull it out.

I like that plan.

With a team that is going to have the talent available to them like the U.S is going to next year it's more imperative then ever just to stick to the basics, 4 lines skating hard and forechecking/backchecking like madmen, keep the game close and make it uncomfortable for them and make them feel the pressure of having them be expected to win but it's now very much in doubt as the 3rd period winds down.

Let them feel the heat and give them the opportunity to crack.

The American defense is pretty awful. That team will be brutalized in their own end, and no one’s scared of Augustine.
I wouldn't mind hearing your in depth analysis of the prospective U.S. defense. As for Augustine, he's a good prospect and will likely be a 2nd round pick. He's perfectly fine for this level.

Hope so.

I like our D and we'll be fine. Let someone else be the "favourite" for a change - and have the pressure that comes with it.

My in-depth analysis is that I’m looking for weaknesses to cope with the strength of the USA’s offence, to be honest.
Youth is our weakness but the 18 year old kids are pretty awesome so...

If Fantilli and Wright play, it sure would help provide some leadership / experience up front.

Hot takes:
Celebrini will show he's not too far from Bedard, what he doesn't have offensively, he does defensively.

Expecting a lot from Yager, he was the best player at Hlinka last summer, and he could be very important here.

Korchinski will give a show.

Looking forward to seeing what happens at Hlinka, I think there are some doors open for Misa or McKenna, you'll say that would make the team too young, but I'll reply to that: when you have Celebrini, Yager, Ritchie, Beck as your center line, everybody is playing great 2-way hockey. And this creates some opportunity to bring at least one X-factor, a young player.

Barlow - Celebrini - Savoie (Can compete with anything the US/SWE throws at them)
Benson - Yager - Wood (Hlinka duo reunited)
McKenna / Misa - Ritchie - Danielson
Geekie - Beck - Firkus
Dumais - Heidt

Having won the last two tournaments it will be kind of fun going into one as the underdog. USA and Sweden will have the best rosters on paper but that doesn't always translate on ice.

It will be a vexing problem for sure.
Eww... "vexing". (doing my best Homer Simpson)

If our X-factors are ready for this show, we'll at least match their offence.
I agree with that. The talent is on our side, even if the experience isn't.

All things considered, Sweden is due. A wonderful mix of talented players, plus home ice advantage.

Well, i'd love to live in a fantasy world...............................jessica alba would be beside me right now.
We will have to squarely deal with reality next december however.
Agree but does our 2024 team really look that bad?

There's a 50% chance (maybe better) we get Wright and Fantilli. Add Savoie, Geekie, a strong D, a bunch of young guns and a lack of expectations / pressure... I think we're more than fine.

I don't think it looks bad at all, there's plenty of talent on it.

I aim to win as always.
