WJC: 2024 Team Canada Roster Talk - Part 1

Colour me shocked at the whiners regarding the captain. Hopefully if he and another certain specific teammate succeed you can be happy for the team/country as a whole.

Rent. F*cking. Free.
This is the first time I can recall any howling about who we are having as captain so it must be a Leaf thing which I think is silly as can be. This is the national team, you put any NHL bullshit away for that.

Been watching international hockey since I was a kid. Lots of NHL teams I dislike. Never once bothered me those team's players then happened to be on the team I was cheering for. Nor should it.

Go Canada Go!

The players NHL affiliation does not even warrant a thought ever to me, they are here representing Canadian hockey, that is all that counts.

This is gonna be my last post on this subject since clearly you and others defending those guys aren't following the CHL and it's therefore a useless discussion.

I wanted to clarify though that I couldn't care less about the Leafs or the Canadiens but I do watch a lot of CHL and I just don't think Minten and Beck are role models based on their CHL actions. I can't talk about anything else since I don't know but I've seen enough intent to injure from those guys during CHL games to not wanna see them with any letters in hockey. Again, both are fantastic prospects and I like them as players, just not as role models.

Just dropping in to say Merry Christmas and good luck to some of my faves from across the border. Here's hoping to a USA - Canada gold medal game.

It's the most wonderful time of the year!
Thanks, mang. You are an awesome poster and a nice fellow. Merry Christmas to you. God bless.

P.S. I want to wish the U.S. luck, but I doubt you'll need it. Plus, my fingers just can't quite type it out. (half joking)

The only time I can really recall a Canadian team making a really poor decision for captain, was Patrice Cormier. That team also had issues all over it, so it wasn't all on him. Hockey Canada usually get it right.

What about the other Canadian Assistant Captain Maverick Lamoureux, who has actually been suspended (unlike Minten) for knee on knee hits? Does he count as well, or is he exempt from your list?

That's a very good point and you may very well be right to bring it up. It looked to me as more of a reckless than an intentional play. Also, if I'm completely honest, I'm not following the Q quite the same way as the other two leagues so I couldn't tell you much about Lamoureux's actions or reputation.

That must have been one tall opponent. One would suspect with Lamoureux involved, it was knee on shoulder.

As a Ducks fan, looking back it’s kind of hard to believe Max Comtois was named captain.

I've always felt he couldn't live up to the image TSN build up for him. In a way, it's similar to Eberle's time at the U20's - as though he was going to be something more than he was.

I'm sure he made his money in the NHL.
Hopefully he was smart with it.

Yes, everyone is in the dark about everything aside from you, good thing we have you around to straighten us poor fools out.

Your concerns have been duly noted, thanks for clueing us all in Mr Bowman.

On the topic of Lamoureux... I think he could stand to have a bit more snarl... I don't see a dirty player at all.

I cannot believe the weekend is over. Where did the time go?

Need to get up early, tomorrow, and watch Canada vs Finland.

It would be nice to see Canada lose a RR game - we always play better in the playoffs when we do. If not, hopefully the pre-tournament loss to the U.S. will do.
