Losing Luneau and Molendyk sucks. This really is a B team among those eligible.

Benson-Bedard-Cristall
Barlow-Fantilli-Nadeau
Lindstrom-Wright-Firkus
Catton-Ritchie-Fink
Heidt

Dickinson-Korchinski
Molendyk-Luneau
Pickering-Morin
Akey

vs

Cowan-Poitras-Savoie
Minten-Geekie-Dumais
Wood-Celebrini-Yager
Allard-Beck-Danielson
Rehkopf

Mateychuk-Lamoreux
Furlong-Warren
Donovan-Bonk
Nelson

Medalling, and especially pulling off the gold, will be extra sweet this year.

Some thoughts from the game today:
- Celebrini was the best player on the ice
- Canada's defense and goaltending was weak, especially in the second
- The US defending wasn't much better, was asleep in the third
- I get the sense this team really has a lot of room to grow, clean up in their own end (as do the Americans), if they do this team could contend for Gold.
- Rehkopf should continue to get time with the better players

To your credit, D, you've always said this team was VERY good from top to bottom. Well done!

As for your post, yes, just imagine what this team could have been. 😢

People snoozing on Ty Nelson, he can qb a power play no problem. He should have no problem slotting in the top two defence pairings.

I can't imagine a scenario where Canada and Sweden do not meet in the semis.

The U.S. will win their pool 4-0 and have a HUGE Goal Diff. Canada and Sweden will end up 2 and 3 (or 3 and 2) once the teams are re-seeded in the semis.

I think Donovan making it somehow is a blessing in disguise. He was in my top team, because we seem to need to learn the same lesson again and again in Europe, you can't bring slow folks over there.

Wood is struggling.
Dumais is struggling.

Looks like Celebrini will play with Yager and Rehkoff instead of Dumais, much better line for him.

That’s an excellent point. Hadn’t thought of that. Thx

Unless the U.S. falters and wins a game in O.T., they will win every RR game by a large margin and no team in Canada's pool will be able to keep up. It is what it is.

So, my guess, the semis look like this :

Canada vs Sweden
U.S. vs Finland

Of course, if Canada, Sweden or Finland falter in the RR, the U.S. could face them in the Quarterfinals.

Having said that, between Canada losing players and the easy schedule, the hockey gods have laid out a clear runway for the U.S. to the GMG - my apologies for underestimating Finland.

That’s certainly the most likely scenario. But…..something always happens. This year I’m guessing that the surprise comes from the Czechs….either against US in RR or ruining somebody’s quarter.
