Is it me or does anyone else feel like this team is gonna shit the bed this year?
Nope don't think that at all. This team is not going to be the most skilled in the tourney nor will they have a goalie likely to steal them a game. But they are going to be the hardest working team and will probably be the best "built" team. The checkers will check, the scorers will score. The stay at home defenders will stay at home and the puck movers will move the puck. I expect them to really gel quickly this year based on the way this roster was filled out.

Zoning in on Jordan Dumais the last day, reminds me quite a bit of kyle wellwood when he played for us, not a great skater but awful slippery and real good with the puck on his stick.

The not great skating part is right, but I hate the Wellwood comparison because Dumais is such a little tank. People don't realize how strong he is. The scouts around Halifax raved about his strength in the gym. Wellwood, I don't know if he ever showed up in the gym.

Korchinski going on non roster is not related to a world junior release

Canada's D is loaded for bear either way. I think they'll be the class of the tournament.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around Canada not being the favorite, I think it's still the best roster. They only need one goalie to be on his game.

I know it was just an 8:00 PM practice, and you can't really take much out of a first outing like that, but I really really thought Markus Vidicek put in some good work. Quick, engaged. Battled hard in the mini 3-on-3 drill they had
Vidicek is extremely under rated. Maybe that is changing.

Amen, brother.

I've been watching the WJR's so long, I no longer care what gets said pre-tournament. Or, at least, I TRY not to care.

I know...

* Americans will praise their players.
* Canadians will say their team is garbage.
* Eye Of Ra will dump on Sweden.

If it's happened once, it has happened 20 times, and it's had NO affect on the outcome of the tournament.

Does Canada have a player with Swedish heritage who will serve as a double agent of sorts a la Virtanen in 2016?

Shit the bed would imply they were supposed to be good in the first place and disappointed. I just don’t think it’s a very good team to begin with
It’s clearly a good team, it just doesn’t appear to be a great one… on paper, at least. Let’s let them play some games before we dump all over them. There are clearly some real game-breakers in this lineup.

Sweden definitely does have a stronger defense than Canada here

Game style i think he reminds me of wellwood, as far as strength goes, while dumais may be a tank and wellwood not......they are both below average skaters who play with finesse and like to quickly dart into openings to make quick smart plays.

I really dont see dumais using that strength he has as a major part of his game imo.

I share his concerns, it is not a great team compared to what we usually bring and relative to what the u.s and the swedes are bringing this year. I am a little leery of relying on young players like celebrini and small guys who arent great skaters from the Q like dumais who may light up that league but could find themselves struggling here, sort of this years mike ribeiro. Still, you are right, we need to see them play a few games first, if they get the p.p and p.k oiled you never know as its such a special teams game at this tournament. With this edition of Team Canada though I think we will know within 2 games whether they have any chance of winning at all or if they are just in over their head in terms of thinking gold.

Feels like that kind of team to me.

That’s fair. We’ll get a really good measuring stick with a highly unusual pre-tourney match-up with the US. If we lose that one 8-0, then okay, maybe it’ll be time to panic. Lol.

They are having an open practice today in Oakville. But sched shows 3 sessions. One with Usports which I assume is a game against the university team. Are the other two just practices or scrimmages?

I share the same concerns, plus the uncertainty around where our goaltending is at this tournament. I think we'll need stronger than average goaltending to win gold this year, and I'm not sure if we're on-track to get that. Hopefully DiVincentiis finds last year's form, or one of the other guys at camp steps up and takes that starting job.

I'll need to see this team in action and see their overall philosophy/roster construction before I have any sense of where this team goes this year.

Surprised geekie and Savoie haven’t just immediately been put together but I guess there is time for that

That U.S game should tell us quite a bit even if its just pre tournament.

It’ll be a real treat to watch (assuming we don’t get blown out). Canada and the US are absolutely unable to dial it down, even for exhibition games. This is why we typically don’t play one another. It’s going to be pretty hazardous out there.

I never liked playing Russia or the USA in pre tournament games; it feels as if the prestige of those fixtures deserve more stature than a pre tournament game
