A couple line up projections from the Athletic, from either of these it definitely looks like a hard checking line up. I think that the top 6 can provide enough scoring to win though. Savoie Celebrini is high end, Dumais on the second line canhopefully translate as well. He kinda reminds me of Mantha in the ay people question if he should be invited and then was the best player for Canada come tourney time. Even if its the Q, that production cant be ignored.

They also better hope offensive Danielson from the preseason shows up, or the scoring might dry up pretty quick outside of the "skill" guys

It concerns me to have to look to a guy like celebrini too much for offense this year,, relying on those young guys to be the leading lights is uncomfortable.

I think in most years ideally he would be a guy further down the chart for those duties but he is going to have to produce well at this tournament this year.

I think if they want some scoring from the bottom 6 it would be smart to put Cowan and Barkey together down there. Electric together at London this year, they have great chemistry. I'd be surprised if they didn't provide any offense if they got the chance.

Firkus on L3 and Cowan on L4 gives us at least one guy on each line that can potentially drive some offensive production.

In most years he'd be a cut from camp, or at best, makes it as a 13th. forward.

If we get 7-9 pts from him, that would be amazing. I'm not expecting more than that. but better than what Fantilli did last year. Celebrini is a better prospect.

Absolutely. People tore apart Fantilli last year for sub-par production and Fantilli was eight months older and more physically capable of handling 19 year olds. If Celebrini doesn’t produce even as much as Fantilli did last year, it shouldn’t hurt his stock at all. Context is important.

I dont think he would be cut in a normal year. A potential 1st overall pick and hes lighting up the NCAA pretty ood right now. Thing that woul dhave him make it most years is that hes really solid away from the puck too.

I dont like having to rely on him in the top 6 necessarily, but playing him on the wing instead of at center seems reasonable.

I've always maintained that if a kid is good enough to lead college hockey in scoring as a 17 year old, he's probably good enough to play top 6 minutes against Team Latvia/Germany at the WJCs.

edit: didn't realize he fell out of the scoring lead. sentiment remains

Yeah, he wont hurt his draft status here considering the situation.

Can anyone give me a short glib on Geekies game these days? I dont really know much about him but remember some rumblings about being slow afoot.

Are we looking at a potential liability with him on the big ice?

Yeah I am also concerned about relying too much on Celebrini. Bedard is an exception not a rule.
I don't feel this team lacks offensive firepower.

If we are going to win Gold (after losing 6 players), this will need to be a TEAM effort - from the net out.

Agreed. The good news is that Canada has won that way before, and this lineup still has more firepower than some other Gold winning team Canada lineups have had. As for the goaltending, I’ve been impressed with Ratzlaff every time I’ve watched him, but I know nothing of the other guys. Hoping they’re decent.

The U.S. only lost one player (to the NHL) and is loaded up front. The Swedes are very talented and are playing at home. Canada will hopefully (no matter how hard TSN tries) fly under the radar - and it might work to our advantage.

He's not a speedster like Savoie or Ludwinski but he's he's plenty fast enough for this tournament.

Yeah sure that F looks good, but you could have had way better
there were several players that wasn't picked, shocking..

Riley Heidt, one of the best, if not THE best player in the entire CHL this season
is insane that he was not picked.

No Cristall, no Paracek..

Where's Misskey? the best two-way d-man of the WHL this season
no Cagnoni either... amazing offensive d-man

But there are this trio of D Bonk, Buchinger, Donovan from the OHL...
joke, they even selected a d-man that is currently injured,..
Molendyk, who had a hot start, but been average for a relatively long
time

i could mention few other players who wasn't picked..
Riley Heidt isn't the best player in the CHL. He has the most points, that doesn't mean he's better than any of the selected because he clearly he is not.

He was in a race with Yager for that spot, not sure who would take Heidt over Yager...not me!

I don’t think Canada will ever fly under anyone’s radar, and that’s a good thing. Every country knows when they’re playing Canada.

Ludwinski has played well this year to his credit, finally healthy and playing well. Regardless I don't think he makes this team, but he wasn't even on the radar two months ago so that is a positive.

I just was TSN's Pre-Pre World Junior Special. Same format, different players. Still, it is entertaining.

I’m a little worried about the level of pop and it factor on the back end. Luneau I’d presume will be “the guy” from the group but for the other 38 minutes a night I wouldn’t be surprised to see the team struggle (at least relative to Canada’s standard) at moving the puck up the ice and sustaining offensive possessions. Maybe my read is way off on the rest of the group but none of them strike me as #1 d-men for this level.

Geekies feet might not help him in this tourney, but hes huge and a lot of these smaller euro teams are going to have trouble with his size down low in the offensive zone. I dont know if hes the typical number one center for a team Canada but hes been lighting it up this year so well see what happens.

Also for context, Fantilli was a late-birthday draft eligible 18 yo college player. Celebrini is a 17 yo (who's in college because he finished high-school early. A lot of people don't seem to realize that.
