WJC: 2024 Team Canada Roster Talk - Part 1

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
We have to remember that they are building a team, you can invite the top 10 scorers from each league but we all seem to forget that keeping goals out is just as important. I am sure they did not just go out on a limb and invite a bunch of randoms, they all have roles to play we can just send out four top lines.
Agree. The people who choose the team are chosen for a reason.

samuel st hilarie is very good. don't diss him if given a chance he will shine in this tournament.

Would like to know how I was dissing him. He's a fine goalie and is a top 4 goalie in the QMJHL this year. Love seeing that for him. There's a difference though between being good in the QMJHL and being good at the WJC's. Did I miss everyone stanning hard for Nathan Darveau last year?

Gotta give it to you, not sure if I have seen you go more then one post talking about this years goaltending without bringing up Darveau. You know except for the fact that Millic and Rousseau went undrafted due to being under sized and Darveau is 3-4 inches smaller then they are lol I think it should be a 3 way battle for the starting spot with the two Q goalies and Ratzlaff fighting it out.

Was just curious how consistent everyone is when bringing up how X goalie is putting up great numbers. If your belief is bring the goalies with the best numbers in the CHL that's fine just be consistent. If there's nuance there then be nuanced. Don't discredit another goalie because of worse numbers just because it happens to fit your argument this time when it didn't previously.

got feeling we competing more for bronze then gold th is year but hopfully the team proves me wrong also seen st hilariie play live the goalie is a stud I hope he makes the team.
Canadas still going to ice a line up that can compete for gold. In single elimination tournaments, if youre going in competing for Bronze, yourecompeting for gold in reality.

This team wont be as flashy as years past but they have a lot of guys that are going to be very tough for other teams skilled players to get any room against. Theyll just play more of a checking style compared to some other years

You think I don't think there is nuance because I disagree with your evaluation of the goalies. Your opinion isn't the bible around here big guy.

The Sabres are going to get some guys back by the time the tournament starts. But Benson has easily been one of their best forwards and is getting pp/pk time. It’s hard to imagine him getting sent at this point. Not impossible…but he’s firmly in their top 6 and plays special teams and they can’t afford to make themselves any worse.

My hope is that Benson says he wants to go because he's never been.

Does anyone know how many players invited are from the WHL, OHL and QMJHL?
10 from OHL*
9 from WHL
7 from QMJHL
2 from NCAA

* way too many if you ask me.. OHL is not very good this season
the lack of defense and goaltending is shocking

Paul Ludwinski has no business of being selected
same goes for Allard, Beck and several > Barkey

I would have picked just 5 guys from OHL, if that.

Also selecting these goalies over Meneghin; DiVincentiis,Ratzlaff, St-Hilaire
is a joke, sure they had the brains to pick the best goalie Rousseau but
what if he gets injured?

Yeah sure that F looks good, but you could have had way better
there were several players that wasn't picked, shocking..

Riley Heidt, one of the best, if not THE best player in the entire CHL this season
is insane that he was not picked.

No Cristall, no Paracek..

Where's Misskey? the best two-way d-man of the WHL this season
no Cagnoni either... amazing offensive d-man

But there are this trio of D Bonk, Buchinger, Donovan from the OHL...
joke, they even selected a d-man that is currently injured,..
Molendyk, who had a hot start, but been average for a relatively long
time

i could mention few other players who wasn't picked..

It is really hard to see us even competing for bronze this year seeing as the tournament is in europe this year and as everyone knows........Canada woefully struggles to get any kind of good result when tournaments are played there. It is probably best to keep our expectations in check this year and just concentrate first on trying to make it out of our group. If we manage to pull that off then maybe just maybe we can dream about bronze.

I'm assuming this is sarcasm lol?

Lol...from me it is but if you had seen this from a poster from a certain continent rest assured this would have been said as gospel.

I know, they are out of their mind.
I've seen you post a lot so I was giving you the benefit of the doubt lol

Canada won the last tournament in Europe (Czech Republic - 2020).
