I'm surprised not a single person is mentioning calum ritchie. Even injured he was invited to the summer showcase where he could not play. Now he is back from injury and is looking pretty good with 9 points in 7 games with the Generals.

I did! Post 343 on page 15, I thought he had a really good u18 and perhaps more importantly showed good chemistry with Celebrini

Based on what Leroux is saying, doesn't sound as if the camp roster will be released until Thursday at the earliest (possibly awaiting news on NHL players). That is about as close to camp I can recall a roster being released.

For those that don't know, Leroux reported that Wright, Clarke and Guenther were going to be released to Canada well before anyone else last year, so he is plugged in.

Won't be a long camp then. Its probable that this team has already been largely selected, with a few depth spots and perhaps the goaltending positions up for grabs based on performance at camp. I get the sense that the days when there were enough open roster spots such that players could make the team based on a strong camp are mostly over.

There are likely a few forward spots and 1/2 D spots open, the rest are spoken for regardless of the camp guys have.

You get your guys like Dawson Mercer who force their way onto the team from the camp (and CHL challenge) alone, but for the most part the team has been essentially slotted prior to the camp beginning aside from a few depth pieces, especially with no CHL challenge evaluation since Covid and the war to help guys causes.

Without the CHL series, Mercer likely isn't on the team in his 18 year old season, he made his mark playing in front of Hunter in the QMJHL series. Bubble guys don't have that luxury anymore.

Well, this doesn't change the selection camp dates (still the 10th-14th), but I agree that the roster is probably already largely selected.

Wow. From a neutral perspective, I'm surprised to see Canada select three really poor goalies for the camp roster. They'd have had better ones available. The only interesting choice is DiVincentiis. Has lots of upside but Canada is gonna need him in 2023 playoff form when he was playing out of his mind. Unfortunately concistency hasn't really been his thing except for the one playoff run.

No disrespect to the kid, but Owen Allard is one of the most "huh?" invites I can recall. They must be hoping his skating will be a factor.

The team ranked first in the CHL has no players even invited to camp? I thought Riley Heidt would at least earn a look.
Ziemmer would have been a lock I guess but he's injured unfortunately. I'm kinda sad they aren't prepared to give Ravensbergen a look. He earned it

Regarding Heidt, he's a controversial player. If his play against the puck was only half as good as his play with the puck then he'd be a lock. Unfortunately, he doesn't win many puck, let alone physical battles and his positioning is faulty as well. For a Center that's concerning. There are people who already labled him a bust and are accusing him of being much more invested with compared to without the puck. I don't think that's necessarily true but he definitely has lots of stuff to work on and even from a neutral perspective I can say that a WJC20 lineup card should only have so many Riley Heidt's on it.

Goaltending is my biggest concern with this team, and isn't an area that seems to be garnering a lot of discussion. As Canadian fans we've seen poor goaltending torpedo our finishes at this tournament.

I watched DiVincentiis get lit up by a low-scoring Ottawa team just a few days ago. He is nowhere close to being at 100% or playing up to his potential (which we saw last year). I'm puzzled by his inclusion.

Here is the camp list:

Pickering, Heidt, and Ritchie are the most curious omissions for me. I don’t imagine he makes the team but the inclusion of Allard is…. Weird
