WJC: 2024 Team Canada Roster Talk - Part 1

This is my last prediction before the rosters come out. In goal is where I am very uncertain. There is a relatively long list of goalies I could see being reasonable choices, although not many have any international experience, which seems to matter quite a bit for WJC team selection. I would include the following goalies as potential options:

Rousseau, MacKenzie, Leenders, George, Parsons, Ravensbergen, Meneghin

You don't think Rousseau is even in the conversation for this team? That seems questionable. I think Cowan will end up on the team as well.

DiVincentiis since coming back from injury has a 0.850 SV%, 0.250 QS%, and a -4.98 GSAA. Previous to his injury wasn't exactly lighting up the world with a 0.892 SV%, 0.545 QS%, and a 1.24 GSAA. Started off the year great and had a great year last season but I just don't see how he's good enough to warrant a roster spot on the gamble that he'll be healthy for the WJC's. Why is everyone so afraid to say Bjarnason's name? He's been very consistent this year and plays a NHL style making him the goalie with the highest upside.

Do they suspect Reid Dyck is going to be healthy by camp or do they just not know? If he's healthy by camp bring him I guess. I don't think he's so skilled though that he can't be replaced by someone healthy and thriving.

What do you think of that Dumais kids game? I am a little leery of counting on players from the Q for offense at this tournament, especially ones that have engaged in squawking about being hard done by because they are french.
We are really going to need to be tight as a group this year to have any chance of winning and unless the guy is one of our more skilled players available i think i would err on the side of not bringing any potential malcontents.

Do you have a quote from him actually saying he is hard done by because he is french? He is going to walk onto this team and should be tasked with running one of the PP units. On the PP he dissects teams on the PP in a very Kucherov like way making ridiculous passes from the half wall to go along with a pin point accurate wrister.

Wasnt he the guy who got cut last year and went back to the Q and started snorting about that age old issue? I know it was some player from the Q last year.

I really have no clue about goaltending my inclination would be to pick Divenncitus but apparently he is not having a good year so I went with Meneghin who Anholt knows and has been playing well. Rousseau has also had a good year. Bjarnasson according to Gigantor is the best goalie. But I have a hard time believing hockey Canada will just give the keys to the kingdom to an 18 year old. Even if they don't use him I hope they bring him or Ratzlaff if only for the experience.
I think we should use Danielson and Beck for an elite checking line.
As to the rest I'm very nervous about the team. The US and Sweden both have loaded teams and it seems like we will probably need to rely on a bunch of 18 year olds. And as Bob McKenzie says its a 19 year old's tournament.
One thing I'm curious about is how they use Macklin Celebrini. He is doing very well in the NCAA as a 17 year old. But hockey Canada doesn't like using 17 year olds. Recall how they treated Lafreniere where everyone and their dog was made to be aware he would be cut if a guy who hadn't played all year was healthy. Then there is the fact that Celebrini is an NCAA player which Hockey Canada won't like. Honestly I'm sort of worryed Hockey Canada won't put him on the team. With that being said Anholt's teams in the past have used young players if they were good enough. Dylan Cozens played a regular shift with the Hurricanes as a 15 year old in the playoffs.
Does anyone know when Bob Mckenzie's show will come on tomorrow? I'm very curious who the surprising locks for the team this year will be. Did Aidan Dudas wind up doing anything the year he was a lock? I can't recall.

The players listed on your team in Red are 19 so the ratio isn't terrible. Having 8 or 9 players who can "return" isn't off the charts. I was (past tense) worried about the age thing but we should be okay.
