WJC: 2024 Team Canada Roster Talk - Part 1

Don’t know what this changes but luneau has been called up by Anaheim

I don't think I'd change my projection at all, but three players to watch, depending on if Korchinski/Benson are available, are RD Noah Warren, RD Aiden Celebrini, and W Koehn Ziemmer. All 04's, however, none of them have national team experience, so they may be amongst the final cuts.
Not many in this age group have national team experience due to covid, no u17 camp or event, 18U event had summer camp but 18u spring tourney had no CHL playoff players and no u20 summer camp

Yeah, that's certainly true, they missed a lot of their normal opportunities to be on the national team.

I know he wont get picked but goalie Samuel St-Hilaire of the sherbrooke phoenix should get considered seen him play live he is legit on a middle of the pack q team in sherbrooke this year 1.70 gaa and 9.38 save percentage

Columbus is soooooooo bad. Fantilli is playing 15:40 a night (19:30 tonight), just a waste of time for him. Send him to the World Juniors, let him dominate. Won't impact the season. Might be better than that shit show in Columbus

1st PP
Danielson
Yager Wright Celebrini
Mateychuk

2nd pp
Geekie
Firkus Savoie Benson
Luneau
You had Yakemchuk on the roster, why not put him on PP1 over Mateychuk at point position since he's a better shooter?

PK
Danielson-Yager
Pickering-Yakemchuk

Minten-Wood
Molendyk-Bonk
I can't say I know a lot about Molendyk's shut-down abilities but this moment from last night was not a good look:

Have you watched any games? Voronkov-Fantilli-Marchenko has been their best line in the past few games. They generated 20 SOG in total against AZ. He and Marchenko are building chemistry together and appear to be future core players for the franchise so I think CBJ has valid reasons to keep Fantilli in the NHL.

CBJ could very well be thinking why risk another Kirby Dach situation with Fantilli, seriously injured in a "meaningless" tournament when he's already a roster player who's fitting right in. If he was getting 4th line minutes and wasn't producing, totally different story.

Plus he has his WJC Gold already.

Fantilli being released is highly unlikely imho.

(Rooting for Kirby big time, btw. What a rough start to his career.)

Didn't say they weren't. Just said the team as a whole sucks, which you can argue with if you'd like. I don't seriously think Fantilli will be loaned, however, it'll be better than playing with a team that can't manage to win anything

It is literally not, the guy has 9 points in 17 games and is forming a line worth a damn with Marchenko and Voronkov. There is no benefit in sending a guy like that back to a junior competition when he's playing up to the NHL level. Columbus just sucks.

On se calme un peu. Was simply making a joke about how bad Columbus is + their unwillingness to use him more. No need to get so rowdy

Whats the goalie situation looking like here? I genuinely have no idea. Is Miller in contention with how hes been playing? No clue so someone fill me in

The '04 crop of goalies isn't anything inspiring. If they go with another four goalie training camp I'd advocate for: Ryerson Leenders, Scott Ratzlaff, Carson Bjarnason, and Mathis Rousseau as the goalies they bring along. Swap out Rousseau with one of DiVincentiis/Dyck if you want.

How does Bjarnason get in over Meneghin?

Does he have a history with Hockey Canada that gets him the call over the better goalie?

Meneghin is having a great year and stopping a lot of pucks. Bjarnason is also having a great year and has provided his team with better chances to win game to game than Meneghin has. Bjarnason has the higher Quality Starts % compared to Meneghin though Meneghin does have the highest GSAA in the WHL so credit to him. Stopping pucks in the CHL though is important but not the most important factor when deciding on a goalie for the WJC's or Nathan Darveau would have been on the team last year. Meneghin really likes to rely on his inner edges, agility and reactions. He's not a goalie that reads the play often as he prefers just reacting to the play. The issue is also while he has a good level of agility it's not to a level that will make up for the lack of reads. Bjarnason has good reads, has a good understanding of the technical parts of the position, and isn't really lacking in the mobility/agility department either.

Unless it's important for him to lead a team to a gold.

I'm sure it has been done before but can someone make up Team Canada if ALL players were available?
