I do think this is the end of Rempe at the NHL level this year. regardless of whether we do another move.

Brodzinski/Goodrow/Vesey/Edstrom is your 4th line and 13th forward. Wennberg is a legit 3C and Brodzinski caught some fire bc of Chytil being injured. Its a clear upgrade.
Not sure. Brodzinksi has outproduced him and put up similar on-ice results. And hes played like 100 minutes with Bonino

We've definitely made some bad 2nd round picks, but our last 2 were Cuylle and Sykora.
I’m being funny.

Also if Wennberg is solid and Chytil cannot recovery then re-signing him is a reasonable possibility.

Sure but why the condition at all? That makes the pick more valuable not less, no matter how unlikely.
Maybe we should be pointing out that getting a first and a conditional 3rd/4th from Dallas for Nils, and then being able to use that first on Gabe freaking Perrault...and the 3rd/4th to help get Wennberg...was actually some pretty outstanding GM-ing by Drury.

That seems like more of the story on that conditional pick to me anyways...

We paid a premium for a 3C. This is not the Alex Wennberg of 2016 that get 59 points. We are essentially getting a 30 point player which is pretty mediocre for a 3C. Considering Tarasenko was gotten for a 3rd though, it definitely feels like we overpaid.

I see, a 4th for 50% retention. I guess that is market rate for retention this year.

No. A rule of thumb for retention based on previous trades is ~$5 million is worth a 1st. Seattle retained $2.5 million so that's roughly a 2nd round pick. The total price is perfectly fine. Buying money is not free.

Wennberg already got overpaid once, I think he will settle for a short contract in the 2s if it’s a good fit here. Versatile player

And Wennberg has played a role in SEA that isn't in his wheelhouse. He'll be good as our 3C. We needed the center depth badly. We didn't lose Brodzinski either, we just have to use him elsewhere.

Yeah. Means Brodz will be an extra.

I know this is hard for some to comprehend, but Goodrow is one of the best PK men on the team, is 4th in the NHL for active forwards in blocked shots and his faceoff percentage is 54%. Hes also won two CUPZ

When you have a 4th line getting limited minutes and the choice is between someone like Brodz who will just sit the bench or Goodrow who offers those things in the playoffs, its an easy decision regardless of how shitty his even strength play is.

PKing is overrated as hell and Goodrow is a net detriment when on the ice but as long as he stays on the fourth line to contain the damage then fine

Others have touched on his usage this year, but Wennberg has the 10th highest TOI against elite competition among NHL centers per puckIQ (outscored the competition 10-7 too). What hopefully will happen is Wennberg easing the burden on Zibanejad's usage because we can't keep wasting Mika as a shutdown center when he's giving us no offense.

I'm imagining they'll likely get another W to help round out the scoring depth, even though I think a move on the backend is more of a need, but I don't really hate the roster if everyone stays healthy. Everyone is slot in at roles that fit them, and there won't be weird issues with usage like trying to shoehorn in Kane and Tarasenko last year.

Kane and St Louis forced their way here too. We still paid market value
Kane a St. Louis were also on the teams where they could build a statue for them outside the arena. Tarasenko was in Ottawa cause he had nowhere else to go. It's a big difference.

who cares

my dude you're dying on this mole hill for some reason. the chance of it mattering is so slim that there's no reason to be this way

I wouldn't say I'm dying on it, in fact I said earlier it's not really the end of the world.

But we don't ever win these. It's annoying, for one, and for a second, it is actually a bad thing.

I'm not gonna say it's good just cause the usual suspects like to pretend everything is great.
