Let’s talk about our 5 on 5 problem

Again we played all year without an NHL 3rd line center. Not a few weeks. Not a few months. ALL YEAR

Our top line is not a line. It is two players. Mika and Kreider have not had a RW1 all year. Kakkos first 20 games were absolutely embarrassing and he’s proven he’s a third liner. Wheeler a corpse. So while other teams have actual first line right wingers. Our top line played short handed all year. Again not weeks or months ALL YEAR

So we struggle at 5 on 5. Hmm wonder why.

Drury is going to give us 3 legit NHL lines in the next 48 hours. Then we can judge.

That’s essentially what we do

They don't do well even with Panarin

They don't use their 3rd line teammate. They both can't work the boards or cycle at all.

Yes it's possible if you found just the right guy it'd work but these two aren't playing like they have in years past either. They just aren't good this season no matter who plays with them

We heard this last year too.

And the year before.

Somehow all these trade deadlines don't seem to put us over the top or really even meaningfully effect our 5v5, and we are back in the same position in 8 months.

We need permanent solutions not rentals.

Look, the data agrees with you. BUT, in a world where our real issues (5v5 with our "top" line, Lindgren, Trouba) are somehow addressed in house through the Grace of the HS, then a move like Wennberg and if we get anyone else will put us in a better position for not much risk.
