You know regarding guentzel he’s got a modified ntc and he’s a well respected player. They’re going to ask his input on where he wants to go. Typically guys that play in the east don’t like going to the western conference

Does that factor in here? I don’t know but it’s tough going from Pittsburgh all the way to Vancouver or Edmonton if you don’t have to when your other option is NYC for a few months.
If it's modified, the "no" list would probably be 10-12 teams. I would imagine those teams on the "no" list would be the league's bottom feeders. I also have the feeling he will want to go somewhere he will want to resign with (financial security) rather than as a rental for a few months.

He's American but he's from Nebraska. I dont think he's blocking a deal to VAN or EDM if it comes down to it. He'd be a legend if he wins in NY though. Look at Messier.

Friedman doesnt know anything. There's not even a center out there worth a first.

It’s more so the eastern conference players want nothing to do with being that far from home and the travel (time zones) I’d imagine home is prob Pittsburgh now

If management truly believes this team can win, and that the time is now, they would have Othmann, Gabe, Kakko, multiple 1sts, basically ANYTHING but the "core" in play for Guentzel, Hanifin, etc. BTW, the core absolutely includes Laf and K'Andre, so they aren't going anywhere in any scenario.

I would bet Drury and co know better. If there's an opp to get an upgrade for cheap they'd do it, or even an equal value deal. But I do not believe they are willing to overpay for this year. Record is nice and all, and anything can happen, but they know the odds with this group.

Two days to be proven horribly wrong, of course, as is tradition.

Doesn’t sound like any of the interested teams are looking at him as more than a rental and reports are he absolutely wants to test the market. But he very well could have Canada on that no trade list for financial reasons alone.

That is actually super concerning considering we have been highly connected to Wennberg and it now makes me think we will drastically overpay for him, where as I expected him to cost very little....
that was your mistake, the center market is nonexistent, especially if henrique goes to the oilers..

buyers market my ass

If you want Guentzel and dont want to "mortgage the future" (whatever that means to people), deal Kakko, jones and a 1st for him. He's a rental. Roster player+prospect+pick is the template for a guy of his caliber.

Or controlled leaks. Maybe Drury is looking at Eberle with Wennberg.

Don’t want to give up a 1st

Friedman had the Rangers interested in Rooney & Blackwell yesterday. he's grasping at straws.

However! He did just say Vancouver and Edmonton dont feel good about their chances to get Guentzel. Who does that leave?
