Yeah, its getting a little silly.

This Guentzal stuff is madness. I really like him as a player, but they flipped and burned the apple cart trying to bring Kane in last year and it upsetted everything.

Its impossible for this club to just make some low key moves that upgrade the depth of the team. Seems desperate. And likely is considering how much they want to wake up Mika from the black sleep

it only upset everything because Kane actually sucked and we already traded for Tarasenko who was the exact same kind of player

You can't use the Tarasenko trade as a barometer on anything. He had a NMC and forced his way there. All leverage was gone.

Interesting that when a player forces their way somewhere else that team pays nothing. When it's the Rangers we have to pay like they are still in their prime. I am convinced the league and the players mostly don't like us.

Honestly, I don't like us either.

3rd and 4th for Vlad? And we paid a 1st last year. Nice.
Drury is a rube and the whole leaugue knows it.

Wennberg for a 2nd which becomes a 1st if the Rangers play 82 games this season.

Only untouchable young players should be Perreault and Laf.
absolutely.

We need to win now, if it doesn't work out, we know how easily it is to blow it up and restock the farm.

Guentzal is the ultimate high risk high reward move. Is this the year to toss in all the chips on this core? If not now, when? One or two years from now, all current relevant players aging further?

Maybe it’s the year to really go for it. It’s scary to mortgage the future, but I think it’s just as important to take risks when the timing is right. Probably nothing sadder than leaving moves on the table and ultimately coming up short.
It sounds nice on paper. But when you think back at the 2023-2024 season, was there really a long stretch where we looked dominate? I don't think so. Our playerplay was hitting at a pace they weren't going to keep up with. Our 5 on 5 play was bad. Lots of games I can't look back on and say we should win that game majority of the time.

So going for it when you're in a top position sounds really good on paper, but I don't think this team is top winger away from looking like a real 1st place team. I think we have other issues that won't be solved here by going all in on Jake. So at the end of the day, you're tossing away assets on a player you can't afford to keep without making some unique moves.

Yeah look the core is what it is, Trouba and Panarin have two years left, Kreider is turning 33 next month, the team is in 1st place. I've had my criticisms but it makes sense to make a big run and if they fail then retool within the next couple years.

You know regarding guentzel he’s got a modified ntc and he’s a well respected player. They’re going to ask his input on where he wants to go. Typically guys that play in the east don’t like going to the western conference

Does that factor in here? I don’t know but it’s tough going from Pittsburgh all the way to Vancouver or Edmonton if you don’t have to when your other option is NYC for a few months.

Rangers always bid against themselves in trades. Verbeek to Drury, we will give you Vatrano and Henrique for Jones and a second round pick. Druy counter offer, We will give you our first this year, Kaako and Laf for just Vatrano. Verbeek sounds good lets get it done. Drury wait, we will also give. you our first next year as well. Ok now lets sign.

How large does our division lead need to be/how close to the President's Trophy do we need to be to be considered a real first place team. All of this with Mika, Trouba and Igor (until recently) having their worst seasons in years. Just out of curiosity.

Trading a 1st, Othmann and another pick or prospect really isnt mortgaging the future. Having them or not having them isnt changing the fact that a retool is coming when Panarin's contract is up. And Drury and Laviolette's jobs depend on winning. So its easy to say the team is stupid for going for it, but scared teams dont usually win anything.
Drury has plenty of runway. I don't get the impression that he'll be on the hot seat anytime soon. He had enough pull to essentially get Gorton whacked, and him and Sather seem thick as thieves. Sather, despite not winning a thing in his 20+ years here, seems to have Dolan wrapped around his cigar-stained finger.

Laviolette is in a no-win situation regarding some of the players on this team. Zibanejad is a glorified PP specialist at this point, and Trouba/Lindgren are circling the drain. You can't offload that much salary in a single offseason, and we have no one organizationally that could offset the loss of Zibanejad, even with all his warts. If Chytil wasn't getting concussed into oblivion constantly, maybe you take a chance on him being able to step up as the 2C, but that's not the reality we live in.

He's American but he's from Nebraska. I dont think he's blocking a deal to VAN or EDM if it comes down to it. He'd be a legend if he wins in NY though. Look at Messier.

Friedman doesnt know anything. There's not even a center out there worth a first.
