That’s cause he signed mid-season. Now he’s got to take an educated guess who could make it and who he’d trust to trade him to a contender if he wanted to go. Kent Hughes has a reputation of treating vets right and trading them to places they want. See the case of Jeff Petry among others
He will just ask for his NTC like he did last season with detroit and it won't be an issue.

I love how everyone is saying that Kane doesn’t make sense.

There are literally thousands of reasons that players will sign as a UFA.

Their wife like it here, they like the history, they like where the team is at etc.

it’s not so cut and dry as fans make it out to be

I mean, Kane doesn’t make much sense for either party does it?

He’ll likely be asking for 3 years in what will be his last contract. He’ll probably be asking for 6 or 7 mill per, and Montreal is a rebuilding club. Wouldn’t he want to play for a contender at this point? A team like the Rangers makes more sense for him I would think.

There's 0 chance I'm giving Kaner a multi year deal at his age and with his recent injury history. Especially not if I'm a contender and my cap situation is likely tight to begin with.

Oh my the 20 points player Armia who started in the ahl . Who had a good 10 games streak for once since he joined mtl.

Still untradable without retaining
armia set a career high in goals last year. if anderson and/or gallagher come close to their career highs in goals they certainly would be tradeable.

don't see much sense in signing perron, kane or simirlar top 6 wannabe player, even on a shorter deal, since we already have gallagher and anderson to fill that role. i'd give them a chance to play with dach and newhook in hope one of them become a tradeable asset again, which they won't become if they are buried on the fourth line. maybe i'd sign a bottom six, pk specialist to help evans, armia and dvorak and spare suzuki on pk and that's it.
lol, Kane instantly becomes our second best forward if he signs here.

Except it wouldn't be more harmful.

If you trade him this off-season with retention and he get bought out next year, the Habs would end up retaining salary on this stiff for 5 years (also losing the retention slot for that time period).

The Habs are probably going to contemplate a buy out for the last 2 years or final year of his deal depending on what is going on with the team. Once management have completely given up on him he's going to be buried in the minors, so the roster isn't the biggest issue.
I doubt a team interested in Anderson at 2.75x2 after this season would buy him out while giving up an asset for him. It would hurt them. Worst case is they retain for the final 2 years too if he absolutely shits to bed this year again.

Anderson has broken 35 points once in his career, he isn't bouncing back to shit. Best case scenario he is a nice complementary third liner. Worst case he is a 5.5M$ black hole that suck the life out of whichever line he plays on.

What role, he sucks defensively, can't make a pass. Shoots like a turd. Hits once in 5 games . At 5.5m a year to do something that's just awful.

I guess he can skate fast but he doesn't know where to go
He was no doubt brutal..................my point was he could............could make a resurgence, if he takes a role ala a checking winger. He has speed, and size. I hope..........he can find a role.
As for the money, well Bergevin stuck with several bad contracts, and there is at least one contract worse than his. ( Gally )

Why would they not? You already said it the only thing Anderson is good at is stinking out the joint. Half of the buy out hit would be passed to the Habs anyways. So even if a team was originally willing to take a chance on Anderson doesn't mean they would be willing to be patient with him if things doesn't work out.

Just no reason for the Habs to expose themselves to that risk at the moment.

Somewhere on earth in a hospital

It's because he had top 6 times for a while because of injuries and how bad we were playing. If we want to go further those Armia type of players are 4th liners.

Im a tell you in max 2 years the bottom 6 will all be gone.
Evans Gallagher Armia Anderson RHP and Dvorak.
We need to make space for the future and if we want to have a better result this season to keep progressing, you don't keep the same exact lineup.
