The main concern I have is having no "good" option this year for someone to play with Dach (and probably Newhook) on the second line in the short term until one of our other younger players are ready to step up. I just want our guys developing in the right environment and positioned reasonably for success. It's not as much about the standings to me.This management hasn't done much for us to doubt about their plan and their capacity to execute, so it's just weird to me to see the complaint about trading a low 2nd round pick for a trade up to secure a prospect they highly value.
And then complaining that we are not active in the FA market, despite not being ready to take the big jump and seeing how expensive the deals were. I would've like to see one of Kane/Perron/Tarasenko sign here, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. Is it really going to make a difference to finish 10pts behind the last wildcard spot or 5pts behind with a UFA signing?
The summer isn't over anyway, and if we end up doing nothing it's fine. We have a lot of chips to play with to be active when the opportunity arises. From picks, to capspace, to young players we have extra of. Let's just position ourselves for the next few years instead of having short term FOMO
Putting a guy like play-killer Anderson or inconsistent Armia on the wing with them might not be the best strategy to position them for success. RHP and Gallagher aren't really good options as a regular linemate either. I don't think Roy, or any of our other rookies, are ready for that sort of responsibility and role, especially considering how Dach missed a whole year.
