I don't know, this draft has a few good defensemen yes, but despite their offensive output, none look like they are big improvements over the prospects already in the system.

Levshunov, Yakemchuk, Parekh are all very good prospects but unless they become all around stalwarts, I don't see them as must haves over offensive upgrades. The way I see it, if we pick Lindstrom or Demidov it is a bigger improvement than any of the defensemen.

Now, if Ducks consider that Lindstrom's injury is a concern and Demidov has the russian factor despite him having just 1 more year left on his KHL deal, then I wouldn't object to them opting for a more stable high end pick. Ducks will be contenders in the future, but wasting a top 5 pick on a dud would really suck.
I trust the Ducks scouts when it comes to defensemen more then anyone on the planet. If they take a defensemen then I expect they see him as having top pairing potential.

The same as Drysdale?
i imagine we wanted sanderson in that draft…. After he was gone it was drysdale vs a bunch of undersized forwards we prob wernt interested in.

Was a very weak draft for dmen in the 1st round and I think we really wanted a dmen at that draft. Tho hindsight we shoulda just moved down a bit and grabbed guhle/Schneider …. Or drafted lundell /Rossi

Yeah. If we see someone we really like then sure. But we don't HAVE to pick one, as we have Dostal, Clang, Suchanek, Clara, all of whom have a potential. Albeit Clang is falling a bit
We certainly don't have to but I'm generally a fan of drafting a goalie every year

Two way mobile D with size who can skate are very hard to find. I think that is why Dickinson, Silayev, and Leshunov (in whatever order) will be the first 3 D off the table and probably in the top 5-6 overall. Yakemchuk is so intriguing as well but he's a total boom/bust type of pick. Expect him to go very high though.

This draft feels like there is a celebrini tier and then like 8 guys in tier 2.

At least last season we had the drama of trying to get last to ensure top 3 pick. This year I have little to care about after the trade deadline.

well, we did pick up a top-5 scoring forward prospect recently. Could follow his NCAA career as it comes to an end and have Verbeek sign him. That's huge.

As for the tier 2-12, yeah, it's all over the place. It comes down to preference with defensemen as we've got so many different types, more offensive than defensive guys.

Time to start looking at big quebecois 2 way forwards now I guess
Lol yeah. Madden probably watching nothing but QMJHL games looking for the next Groulx/Gaucher
I hope they pick someone GOOD with the Edmonton 1st and not a Gaucher/Myatovic type.
I think they've drafted enough 'character' types and need more high skill guys to surround Carlsson with.

Hemming or Ritchie at around #25 to #28 sounds good.
But Madden probably likes Dean Letourneau 6'7 C expected to go in 2nd round is 6'7 and frenchy but plays in NCAA. If they go Euro there is a verbeek type player in Jesse Pulkkinen 6'6 LD from Finland thats expected to go in 2nd round.

Hadn’t looked at tankathon in a couple of weeks. Well the thought of a bottom two finish is dead. We could probably lose 18 of our last 21 games and still not drop lower.

Time to root for the oilers goalies to suck again.

Can't see Hemming fall that far...

Its going to be a big draft for us. 2 firsts, 2 seconds & 3 thirds!

Hopefully we draft an elite RD with our Oilers pick so they cry about missing out on them.

We need at least two RD's to improve our depth b/c Moore and Warren haven't taken that extra step forward in their development. Helleson is just there. Luneau has knee issues and we don't know more about that which caused him to be shutdown for the rest of the season.

If we miss out on shutdown RD's in Elick and Emery late in the first or early second round, there are two European RD's I'm interested in around that range.

RD Dominik Badinka. 6'3 and 183 lbs. A scouting report (link). He's like another Luneau type.

RD Sebastian Soini. 6'2 and 180 lbs. A scouting report (link). He's more of a shutdown type.

Agree we need 2 RD early in this draft. Unfortunately I think all of the D go earlier than predicted like 2022. Being that this draft is stacked for D talent, especially RD, I bet a lot of other teams are thinking about grabbing that elusive RD this year.

The Oilers pick is in a good enough place atm to get a good one and we could always throw in a 2nd/3rd to make sure we grab "our guy".

Ideal draft to stock RD:
4 Levshunov/Yakemchuck
23 Elick/Emery

Would also be happy with Parekh & Mews if we liked them. Could also see us going Silayev then getting a big RD with our late 1st.
