Pretty soon the ducks will discover the WHL and OHL. I have faith in em.
I got curious and looked where our picks in the 1st 3 rounds have come from in the Madden era and it actually has really good representation across all 3 CHL leagues, the USHL, and Sweden. The most players taken from 1 league was 3 from the Q in 2022.

OHL: 16
WHL: 10
QMJHL: 10
USHL: 12
Sweden: 8
HS: 3
Russia: 1
BCHL: 1
Finland: 1
Czech: 1

We've gone away from college bound prospects in the first three rounds under Verbeek. We have only one college bound guy in the past two drafts in 5th round pick Michael Callow.

Looks like he hyperextended his knee. Could lead to him dropping down the rankings.

Holy crap… another legacy prospect… Illya was a funny guy and one our highest drafted goalies.

and Illya son is an American.
I recall that even after his career was over Bryz seemed to prefer living in the in the usa and he was still in the usa when the Ducks briefly brought him back out of retirement.
I wanted to see Bryz get a post game show with the Ducks, he'd be funny and entertaining.

Boy makes me want Nikishin more... Perreault will always be the could have been Ridly Greig, and Ian Moore will be our the could have been Nikishin... picks so close to one another and we had the choice...

His son isn't as big but there is a wave of small overperforming goalies right now. I could see us taking a swing with a late pick and wait 4-5 years for him to develop before going pro.

I wonder how Bryz would do as a goalie coach. He is so quirky but he might be someone who could take the edge off our goalies.

TSN is conducting a mock draft lottery drawing on trade centre day, for some reason. Sharks and Sens ended up winning the two lotteries

Pre draft order:

Chicago, SJ, Ducks, CBJ, Arizona, Sens

Lottery results:

Sharks
Sens
Hawks
Ducks
Columbus
Arizona

Agree we need 2 RD early in this draft. Unfortunately I think all of the D go earlier than predicted like 2022. Being that this draft is stacked for D talent, especially RD, I bet a lot of other teams are thinking about grabbing that elusive RD this year.

The Oilers pick is in a good enough place atm to get a good one and we could always throw in a 2nd/3rd to make sure we grab "our guy".

Ideal draft to stock RD:
4 Levshunov/Yakemchuck
23 Elick/Emery

Would also be happy with Parekh & Mews if we liked them. Could also see us going Silayev then getting a big RD with our late 1st.

I wont be shocked if this is a dmen heavy draft in general

This team really does not like to draft in the 7th round for some reason. Last time we did was Bowen in 2020 who already retired and the last time before him was Soy in 2016, and we already traded our 7th round pick again this year
I feel like you can usually trade a 6-7 for a more developed player, or help facilitate a trade. Not really losing out on much

Kase was prob our best 7th rounder. Wish we could find more gems like that

I’m having a pretty hard time getting too excited about anyone in this draft (besides celebrities).

Obviously there is going to be good players, but the more I look into guys in the top 10, the more I become indifferent about who we take.

I'm okay with this... one step closer to really having to consider taking Demidov. =)

I dont see us going demidov at all...

I think were going to take our favorite dmen still on the board between
Levshunov, Dickinson, Yakemchuk, Biuim, Parekh.

I do like MBN but idk if we can get to him with our 2nd pick.

Did a 2 roundmock draft with some of my buds and it turned out like this

1st Demidov. Too good to pass up. Electric player with the highest offensive upside in the whole draft.
Mews. Love his potential. Reminds me a lot of Minty minus the nastiness.

2nd Emil Hemming. Big RW with a lethal shot.
Will Skahan. Big mean kid. 6’4 215 and uses his body well. Skates well too

Interesting background on Zayne, didn’t realize he was half Indian and half Korean. Talk about a diversity hire that could bring in Indian and Korean attention:

Can we imagine if the Ducks went with Zayne? What potential firepower on the blue line… but it would take a lot of juggling to get proper partners. Minty, Zellweger, Parekh might mean many of the two way guys that aren’t very physical or strong defensively would end up traded.

Here's a couple of mocks and their top-8. Some were done post-TDL (Tankathon, SN, and FC Hockey)

I didn't see SJ taking either Russian at #2, which bodes well for us to leave Levshunov or Lindstrom. The biggest surprises are Dickinson going lower and Catton in the top-8.

MBN is usually in the mid-teens. Although, Lines had him at 25. I wouldn't count on it, though. I'd take MBN if he was there. That's why I looked at Emil Hemming, who started off in the late 20's in Oct mock drafts and now is around the late teens/early 20s. (damn!)

Another surprise I'm seeing are defensive d-men (DFD) climbing the charts in Elick and Emery. Both were usually seen in the 2nd round for many previous mock drafts. Depending on where our late first round pick lands, it might be prudent to draft one of the DFD if we're picking 32nd.

It does feel like multiple clubs will look at how many D there are this year and decide they all want to draft them. In 2022, when it was also a great year for D, the defensive D all started going earlier than projected most landing in the late 1st when projected into the 2nd round.

Hopefully our Oilers pick can grab a good one this time instead of only having Warren left on the board at our 2nd round selection.
