The Russian government has openly discussed the need to "protect the Russian ice hockey players, coaches, and academies and put restrictions preventing young talents from leaving the country."

"(Putin) added that “although Russia is a free country..."

I thought Zelenskiy was the comedian.

I thought you were going to say "Boeing's missing door plugs." Still, Boeing has to be safer than flying Tupolev.

Nah, the door plugs are just incompetence. When whistleblowers with concrete weekend plans die by "suicide" in a parking lot before a deposition, it's something else...

But yeah, I still remember the Lokomotiv team, and I wish they had had a Boeing to fly on... :(

The little ceremony Lokomotiv had, I think when they resumed playing, with people scoring goals into an empty net on their behalf while sad, operatic music played over the PA system, was one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

BA took a big gamble selecting two Russians in last years draft. To this day I still don't know why he used both picks on Russians.

BA took a big gamble selecting two Russians in last years draft. To this day I still don't know why he used both picks on Russians.

The reason why was because not only were they two big, skilled, and projectable players, but also because they are friends and teammates who would be a support system for each other if they come across the pond together. Without that element, it doesn't make any sense to draft them one-two like that.

Yeah, I think BA is taking advantage of that aspect to get both players here. They'll be coming over together. I'm sure he got good vibes for their character and desire to play in the NHL too. Otherwise he wouldn't have done it. IMO.

They seemed to get along well at the draft.

after the fact, I like both picks...I sure as hell didn't like the picks at the time, but I did 0% review of either prospect, which is why I was annoyed, because we picked players I wasn't familiar with.

I would like for them not to take that 'extra' year Morgan was talking about (they're both rumored to extend current contract by 1yr - so their contract would be thru '25-26 season)...that would annoy me if we have to wait another 2yrs.

Kinda thought that was the expected timeline anyway. Would be fine with them spending that extra year in the 2nd best league in the world and be NHL ready when they come to the states.

I understand, but for our organization it is more of a risk that others. There were other kids that were projectable as high as these two. I don't think, and I hope that being friends and teammates had zero reason why they were picked.
I don't think BA has any concerns with getting them over here to Arizona
I hope you are right. Morgan is now saying they might stay two more years. Hopefully BA has more insight than we have, but other GM's don't seem as confident.

If But had been playing in Canada he would've been picked earlier. We got a steal with that pick.
We don't know that.

I think we can judge the picks in time. So far they like good picks. I am concerned about offensive upside on Simashev but still think he's going to play 22 mins/night as a top 2-3 D man.

I believe Morgan said they may sign one year extensions. That would be two more total seasons. They’re already under contract for next season.

Russians don’t want to play in the AHL. Which makes complete sense as all ELCs are two-way contracts. They don’t want to come over and make less money. Which is fair and logical.

Fair video. I don't agree with all of it. And they underplayed just how physical he is. Also skipped some of his amazing stretch passes (best in the class). But overall fair video.

I like this guys videos a lot.

I posted this on the Discord last night and now I see a lot of it reflected in that video. Haha. We are aligned.

My post:
Yakemchuk’s skating is interesting. It’s effective. He breaks ankles. He has insane dangles and makes forwards look stupid. Without the puck, or in open ice, it’s not pretty. He’s strong, he’s quick, he’s athletic and talented. There’s no reason why he should look like he does. Lol. He’s an unbelievable prospect but any team using a top 5-10 pick on him will need a plan and confidence in the success of that plan.

Yakemchuk is my favorite player in this draft. I’m not sure he’ll be as high on BA’s list.

The Yotes might Iove him as much as I do and may even have him as their top D. Or they might have him behind 4-5 other D.

Parekh is another guy that I have a hard time predicting whether the Yotes love him more or less than the general public seems to. I’ve watched more Parekh games this season than any other prospects. A couple dozen probably. Heck, I watched two just today. Love this kid, too. But he’s not very tall, he’s physically pretty immature, he’s soft, he avoids the hard areas and he’s not a good defender.

When I saw Bill Armstrong a couple months ago (in a parking lot - lol) I said “I have just one question. And you can answer because there’s no one around. Parekh or Yakemchuk?” He laughed it off and said something about there being so many good defensemen this year. I asked because these are the two I have the hardest time guessing about.

I suspect they love Silayev. I also think he’s a bit too similar to Simashev and Lamoureux and I don’t think we’re going to invest another 1st rounder into that same profile. Or at least I’d be surprised. I’m sure they love him. And if we fall to 7th and so does he, maybe it makes sense. But I’m not going to guess that he’s our guy at 5th.

I think Levshunov, Dickinson, Buium or even Lindstrom are more likely. Those are the guys I’m currently thinking might be towards the top the list.

But there’s a lot of hockey left. Tij Iginla is lighting the WHL playoffs on fire. Lindstrom is hurt yet again. What will Parekh do at the Mem Cup? Buium at the Frozen Four? So much left to find out.

Parekh may be my Savoie of this draft. I will rank him lower than i expect him to go simply because i don’t want him.
