I don't think that plays into it.
Bill knows what he wants and he wants a lot of it.
If the coach demands a dynamo puck moving D (like Ghost or Durzi) then Bill can find one without paying through the nose.
My guess for Bill's top 5 is...
Celebrini
Silayev
Lindstrom
Yakemchuk
Levshunov
I think it does matter. It’s really hard to get an elite two-way D. The Gostisbeheres and Durzis I think can fill in some gaps but you need that elite two-way talent at the top of your blueline if you want to be a serious contender.
I looked at the top 25 D in EVTOI/GP and 80% of those guys also get at least a minute and a half of PP TOI/GP.
I think the vast majority of Cup winners have a No.1 D who can also QB their PP.
I love Simashev and Lamoureux. And I love Silayev, too. These are super fun prospects. I’m really honestly a big fan. I don’t see any of them getting top PP time. I think they’re more like a mash up of K’Andre Miller, Colton Parayko, and Adam Larsson to some degree. Which are 3 of the 5 guys from my list who don’t get significant PP time. Those guys are valuable. And I’m glad we have a couple of them that could really project to the high end of that role. That’s important.
I do think you can have too many. Especially if it comes at the expense of something equally or more important that we are sorely lacking.
I think Silayev is the opposite end of the spectrum as Parekh and I think we might end up with them lower on the list because they do represent the extreme ends.
Dickinson and Levshunov and Yakemchuk and Buium I think are better bets to possibly be the do it all, two-way, number one type like Dahlin, Dobson, or McAvoy. The type we don’t have, that can’t be traded for, must be drafted, and usually really early.
