Celebrini, Demidov, Lindstrom, Levshunov, Silayev, Yakemchuk. Those guys are my top six in some order. I want one of them. If we have a pick in the top eight then we have a good chance to catch one. If we have a pick in the top six then we definitely can catch one.

I'd rather see the team go on a streak and pick 16th. But ending up with one of my top six would be a nice consolation prize.
I don't want a Russian regardless of how good he is. Never know what's going to happen and I don't want eggs all in one basket.

It's not like Catton, Eiserman or Dickinson don't belong in the top six. But there's a clear line after six for me and my preferences.
  1. Celebrini
  2. Demidov
  3. Silayev
  4. Levshunov
  5. Yakemchuk
  6. Lindstrom
  7. Catton
  8. Parekh
  9. Buium
  10. Dickinson
  11. Eiserman
  12. Brandsegg-Nygard
  13. Iginla
  14. Helenius
  15. Chernyshov
  16. Jiricek

Honestly a fair point. That’s a lot of risk.

I wonder if he's exaggerating. Didn't he recently say But is now 6'9"? They can also play for the Suns maybe.
But "might" be up to 7'4 now...Simashev 7'0?

Turris and Wheeler weren't Russian....

I'd hope Russians are less likely to be drawn towards traditional historic Hockey markets and more likely to be enticed by warm climates...

Similar to Jakey...I don't pretend to be an amateur scout but...I see right now it is likely Coyotes slot at 6 and I know ya'll are talking up Catton but BA clearly likes big guys so...is there a scenario where BA selects a 5'11" 163 Catton if a 6'4 216 Lindstrom is available?

I’m an amateur hockey fan, not an amateur scout. Haha. I watch a LOT of CHL hockey and a good amount of MHL/USHL/NCAA. But that doesn’t mean I have worthwhile opinions about what I’m seeing. Haha.

With that disclaimer out of the way, I will say I think this team would probably take Lindstrom over Catton.

I like both a lot. I have them close. I’m not sure which way I’ll go when I finally rank them.

I know watching highlight reels of players is dangerous cuz you're just seeing the good stuff but...so far if we are not in the Celebrini, Demidov, Eiserman range...Lindstrom's who I want. Seems like the whole package, speed, size, iq, personality.

I’m not sure I’d put Eiserman up with those other names. I’ve got Eiserman 11th. Chris Peters has him 8th. Pronman has him 9th. So I’m not alone.

If our scouts think he’s elite and pick him top six, I’m not about to argue. I’ll just be excited.

I like Lindstrom a lot. I’d say the reasons why I dont have him top three are concerns over his pure talent level, especially hockey sense and playmaking. Also his on ice discipline is somewhat worrying. I’ve seen him lose his cool and hurt his team several times. He also makes some selfish decisions. And I’ve even seen his equipment manager absolutely tear a strip off him for smashing sticks.

All that said, I’d be thrilled if he’s our pick.

With our luck we drop down two spots.:(

I hate losing, but since the playoffs ain't happening, let's pass the Sens for the 5th spot. They're on a heater and have 3 games in hand.

The problem is, as soon as we are out, the team will play with heart and try to go on a streak to end on a good note:(

I could see that. I think there’s another big drop around 16 also.

The interesting thing for me is how tightly bunched the 2ish-10ish guys are.
How much of a drop from last years draft to this one?

1 - Celebrini
2 - Demidov
3 - Catton
4 - Lindstrom
5 - Buium
6 - Parekh
7 - Dickinson
8 - Helenius
9 - Levshunov
10 - Chernyshov

I really like Berkly Catton. He’s always impressive whenever I watch him. He reminds me a lot of Clayton Keller. Like a lot a lot. And Keller is one of the best draft picks in Yotes history. And a really productive player. But I think I’m gonna drop him down to 8th, 9th or 10th on my list. I’m not sure I buy him as a center at his size. He’s not long like Cooley. He’s stubby. I think he might be a winger. And while I think he’s really good, I don’t think he has quite the same insane upside as Demidov, who I have 2nd overall.

agree...he's a winger in the NHL, unfortunately and that will drop him

I want a RHD with their top pick.
Every year I think about trading down.

Calgary may very well end up with multiple 1sts. Interesting how they'll handle the trade deadline!

You may question other aspects of Bill Armstrong GMing, but the draft is where he dominates, at least that is my opinion.

May I ask why you believe this? I know the pretty suits but besides this what examples can you give that says he's a rock star? Wanting to drink the cool aid :)

BA doesn't have a long draft history as a GM, but here's what we have so far.

Among 2021 draftees, DG is 3rd in pts/gm and Moser 12th, both well above where they were selected.

2022 class, Cooley is 2nd in pts and we passed on Wright ..two wins.
Geekie and Mav also looking very promising.

But the truth is we won't really know for a few years how successful our "build thru the draft" strategy has been.

We have no choice but to trust this group for now…

Bill Armstrong - Chief of scouting for STL 2010-2020 (Stanley Cup 2019)

Darryl Plandowski - Chief of scouting for TBL 2008-2020 (Stanley Cups 2020 & 2021)

Alan Hepple - Chief of scouting for COL 2009-2021 (Stanley Cup 2022)

Not to mention John Ferguson Jr who once ran a draft for Toronto where every single pick he made that year played in the NHL.

Plus Larry Pleau. And Teil Fowler who got us Moser and Vejmelka.

If you don't have faith in our scouting staff, then you shouldn't have faith in any, IMO. It's a solid group.
I would say that it’s a good idea to look at the picks they were criticized for. Guenther was a no brainer. He still is. But they took a lot of flack for Doan and Moser. Even from me. Both are exceeding expectations by a lot. They took heat from the online scouts and from me for Lamoureux. He’s exceeding my expectations by a lot. Simashev and But shocked the world and everyone piled on. Myself included. I took the time to go back and watch all of their MHL playoffs and most of their MHL regular season. Then I understood and felt better. Still, I expected them to yo-yo all year. Spend half the time as KHL scratches and the other half in the MHL this year. Both are productive and useful full time KHLers already. On a top team. Far exceeding my own expectations.

Maybe do some due diligence on BA and his scouting and drafting record. While you are at it check out the people he hired and their draft record.
