Prospect Info: 2024 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

our overall draft need is a C or top 2 RHD, LHD is further down the list.
Silayev is a left shot RD. Always plays the right side.

This means that Silayev, Levshunov, Yakemchuk and Parekh are all RD options for us. Given that Celebrini, Demidov, and Lindstrom all appear to be top 5 locks, the odds of of getting an RD with our 1st pick are really good, given we’re currently in the 8th spot. We just need one single guy outside of those 7 to go in the top 7.

If he keeps rising is there a chance he becomes the top defenseman of this class? Aka move two 2nds to move up to draft Silayev?
Buium, Levshunov, and Silayev also have monster production. I think Parekh is lapping Dickinson. And probably Yakemchuk for most people (not me). Proabbly Buium too.

I'm a right-hand RHD guy...I'd rather have players on their strong side

I'm not taking Parekh, Buium and Yakemchuk is too low on the list to take w/8th overall pick, so that just leaves Levshunov for me.

The more I watch Catton, the more I think he's a winger...so right now I'm stuck, it's either win the lottery and get Celebrini or trade up several spots to get Levshunov.

Pros and cons. Many very good NHL D have done this.

Parekh is 9th (and climbing) on the McKenzie poll. Yakemchuk is 12th on the McKenzie poll (and is everything we like).

Remember where Simashev and But were on that poll? 19th and 22nd.

Yeah, but I've watched a lot of Parekh and Yakemchuk compared to having 'zero' clue on But & Simashev

But I will preface once again, if our scouting staff selects Parekh or Yakemchuck w/our pick, I'm on board.

Cute you guys are discussing parekh, Buium, and levshunov when we’re gonna draft silayev no matter what. It’s literally written in the cards

I have Silayev as my No.1 ranked D. So that’s fine. I just don’t think he’s going to be on the board when we pick. And I don’t think we can trade up to an early enough position to get him.

If he was Swedish, playing in Sweden he would probably go top 2.
I could see both him and Demidov slipping out of the top 5 because they are Russians playing in Russia.

I don't see it happening. KHL winger that isn't very big.
I'm not saying he isn't worthy of going 2 OA. I'm just acknowledging how the draft works.
I’m pretty sure he’s the most productive pre-draft MHLer in league history. And he’s producing via absolutely electric skill and magician’s hockey sense.

He is average to below average size. He does have motor issues, and back checking issues. He is a winger. He is a Russian and he is playing for a Russian club that is a little worrisome.

I believe these are the reasons he’s not going 1st, rather than the reasons he’s not going 2nd.

If it's Chicago/Columbus they're taking Demidov

If it's SJ, Anaheim, Montreal, Ottawa they will not
No Montreal Michkov Mulligan?!?

Fun little video. Short but not just highlights focuses on some little details:

Seems odd he didn't use Simashev as a comparison. We need a photo of Simashev with Silayev for a height comparison to see how much BA is exaggerating.....seems like there are 2 Unicorns....in Russia.....

I wonder if he's exaggerating. Didn't he recently say But is now 6'9"? They can also play for the Suns maybe.

I hate losing, but since the playoffs ain't happening, let's pass the Sens for the 5th spot. They're on a heater and have 3 games in hand.

Celebrini, Demidov, Lindstrom, Levshunov, Silayev, Yakemchuk. Those guys are my top six in some order. I want one of them. If we have a pick in the top eight then we have a good chance to catch one. If we have a pick in the top six then we definitely can catch one.

I'd rather see the team go on a streak and pick 16th. But ending up with one of my top six would be a nice consolation prize.

It's not like Catton, Eiserman or Dickinson don't belong in the top six. But there's a clear line after six for me and my preferences.
