We traded a mid-2nd (#45) to jump from 14th to 11th to take Soderstrom.

I get that it was the previous management team, but this seems like a possibility given the extra 2nds and 3rds and the health of the prospect pool.

I wouldn't be mad if we sneak into the playoffs, get bounced, but then trade up to 12th.

I could see either or both dropping to mid-late teens. Maybe even further.
Agree, and I don't think that's where either should be. They should both be in the 12-17 range for me and I could see them dropping to 20+. I really like the idea of taking a dropper in this draft. Lots of options and lots of good players available.

We’re uniquely positioned to take a risk like that. I wouldn’t mind taking a faller with our first and then trading up for an unexpected riser/darkhorse type. One of each basically. Maybe that’s one of Jiricek/Kiviharju and one of Letourneau/Pulkkinen or something like that.

Pretty much agree. My biggest thing in this draft will be swinging for the fences. We already have Lamoreaux, But, Simashev, Geekie and Guenther, I feel like the floor on most of these guys is already high. And I don't think any of them have *true* elite top 10 talent except for Cooley. I want another guy like Cooley, ideally a C or a D.

I'm not enamored with most players in our range right now. Due to our high pick quantities, I'd be open to moving the 1st at the TDL for the right player(s).

With that said, I'd also be stoked to move up for Levshunov or Yakemchuck. Levshunov is ideal.

Really impressed with the progress Zayne Parekh is making in his overall game. His puck management and decision making. His hustle to get back on D. Most of the blunders now are the kinds of risks that you can accept with a gambler like him. And when he’s blowing it defensively it’s usually due to a lack of strength. He looks a lot smarter and cleaner and harder working all over the ice now. I really like the progress. Highly encouraged.

Beckett Sennecke is still highly skilled and still has a rocket shot. He’s unfortunately still very physical immature and weak. He’s really become something of a rat, however. Which I did not see coming. He’s a fun project pick for the late 1st. A lot of potential. But he’s got to get a lot stronger. He turns the puck over so much and gets overwhelmed. Kind of like Cooley in the NHL. But man, he’s slick and he’s got a great shot.

Wanted to get an assessment of Parekh's overall skating ability?

I have a tendency to de-value short Dmen because if they're short, they either need to possess 1 or more of the following traits for me to believe that the production will translate to the pro game
1 - elite skating ability of a Quinn Hughes
2 - elite quickness ability of a Shayne Gostibehere
3 - elite passing ability of an Adam Fox
I'm trying to find as many viewings as possible to see if one or more of those fits.

He’s not short. He’s 6ft. So just a bit below average height. He’s also very thin. I think that’s the bigger issue. He’s pretty strong for how thin he is but he needs to add a ton of weight. He’s like Cooley. Slightly below average height for his position (D are taller than C) and pretty strong despite being extremely skinny. What do you call that? Athletic skinny? Skinny strong? The wildest example of the strongest skinniest dude ever was Wayne Simmonds.

All that said, I don’t think he’s elite at any one of those 3 but the nice thing is he’s “very good” at all three, I think.

His skating is slippery and he slips into space and his shot is deadly. Mega deadly. I watched his game last night against Windsor and he scored three goals in the second period and it was kinda dejavu.

Ok, do you think his production will transfer?

We're too good to draft Silayev - without trading up.
Bill respects his scouts too much to trade away the picks to move up.

I think Pulkinen and Letourneau are more likely to be our newest giant.
I firmly believe that if scouts try to stop BA from pursuing his dream in Silayev, BA will simply fist fight them.

I think we're at a point where quality is more important than quantity. I'm thinking we condense picks to move up at least once this draft. If the scouts think highly of the player they're moving up to nab, they probably won't care about making fewer picks. Anxious to see what they actually do!

I'm with you in thinking that condensing picks makes sense.
I disagree about it actually happening.

BA condensed picks to get Geekie and MavLam....wouldn't that have been a time when quantity should be prioritized over quality?

Seems like there is no set "time" when quantity or quality is prioritized....other than during the draft at a the time when there's a prized target still available on the draft board that our color coordinated scouting team is after.

I'm torn on condensing picks for Silayev, but again, if that is what the scout team wants to do, with the quality of players they've selected the last couple years, I'm ok with it.

As a fan of prospects, the more we get the better for me...and can't wait to get my matching color coordinated suit so I can be an honorary member of the Coyote Scouting Staff.

We would draft 9th OA if the draft was today and there wasn't a lotto.
that's a good spot.

Around that spot on my list (which is far from a finished product) I have Silyanov, Leshunov, Dickinson, Jirecek, Yamekchuk, Parekh, Builium, and Pulkkinen.

Interesting on my list I am noticing that I have forwards at the top and my D prospects in the middle of my list. That's likely because the forward group is not nearly as enticing as last year so if you are looking for a top line forward I think you need to get into that top 5-9 anyways. Names like Catton, Helenius, Lindstrom are guys that could slip to us. And then there is a name like Iginla who should be available at our slot.
