They couldn't know he was gonna be there at 21 either.

The point is the difference between 21 and 26 isn't a 50ish pick. It never is unless you know who'd falling.
But it depends of the year. And it depends of their list. Maybe not for us. But we are not picking. We need quality.

Also, I'm not betting on it but we have an early 3rd. And we have our 2nd in 2025. And Pens 2nd in 2025. We have a chance to move if we want to pick in the 2nd roudn.

Here
Small Q players often slide despite high production...especially when they're average skaters. HP has him at 84 and RLR has him at 85. Some NHL scouts quotes in HP have him as a 'no draft'.

Can he ever f***ing snipe though. Did it in the playoffs too.
He’s a dream boat. That guy will score in the NHL, guaranteed

They wanted Hage. It makes tons of sense. He wasn't going to be there at #26.

Get the player you want.
I could picture most writing how the habs not trade up 5 spots to get a center from mtl who wants to play for mtl and has Insane offensive talent .
Well you know what they did . So for the love of god let’s not complain we gave a late second to do that

Teams have traded picks better than 58 to upgrade to picks later than 21 today. Good on Hugo for getting in front of the bus and getting better than the going rate to move up. They also leaped some long time division rivals in the Leafs and Bruins. Hage is a Toronto kid.

Most late-2nd round picks don't end up as long time contributing NHLers. We need quality forwards in the system. Sounds like they really wanted Hage

He knows what just happened
A home run 1st round to infuse into the bubbling blossoming project he and Gorton and MSL are currently creating

And we are officially COOKONG BABY.
Hot damn
Would LOVE to find a way to add McGroarty, thought for sure he'd get traded today. Chevy won't budge on his asking price so he won't be cheap, but frankly, there's really nothing else for Hughes to do. I'm not expecting anything in free agency besides maybe signing a 4th liner that can PK since RHP has played himself off the team.
