If you truly believe that Philadelphia had anything to do with Michkov moving then I wish I was as naive. Michkov moving had nothing to do with Philadelphia.
You said it would never happen. But yet SKA is known to allow its star youngins to be loaned to other teams to not hurt there chances. Someone just needs to speak up for demidov

That is not what I said. I said there is no way an NHL team will influence whether he gets loaned or not.

That is a very big if!

No but seriously I’d put him closer to the Fantilli level than Bedard. Still should be a good 1C but not face of the league 1C.
And that’s sad in a way. Some of these players get the generational label, for good reason, but if a player isn’t considered “generational” but still develops THAT level of play, why can’t they be in that echelon? Celebrini would certainly be the face of the franchise from day one for us imo.

Also, the one thing I’m noticing is all these freshman who are draft eligible seem to be having better seasons than Smith. I hate, and I mean hate, to compare career trajectory, because Smith could ignite and light this thing up before the years over.

Genuinely not sure what you’re saying in the first paragraph. There’s a pretty big difference between face of the franchise and face of the league. I also don’t think there’s a single prospect out there that should get the generational label. I don’t think you should get that label until you’ve proven yourself in the NHL.

It’s also been like 2-3 games for most of these freshman. Think you’re jumping ahead a little bit.

well, clearly, I was responding to you saying Celebrini was on Fantili’s level but not Bedards. Bedard is considered a generational talent and based off of your comment, I assumed you were saying he was a “face of the league” player. My point was that even if Celebrini isnt considered generational, he could potentially be as good as Bedard when all is said and done, but would probably not get the recognition as a face of the league type of player. Yes, I realize it’s only been a few games…Kinda my point there as well. These other freshman are performing better on the stat sheet compared to Smith. Could be a reason for concern but probably shouldn’t be.

I've been worried about Smith. He got a primary assist on the PP today, but otherwise seems to be a quiet start following a quiet summer. Yes, it's just a few games etc ... but you'd still rather he blows up early and often. Maybe/hopefully he's just gripping the stick a little.

Will Smith is 18 years old. He’s just started college. This is new to him.
Relax.
This, and the Sharks are in a great position to be patient with him...give him 2-3 years if needed while the rebuild continues. They were clearly aware of his expected slow development when they drafted Smith or they would have taken Reinbacher, Leonard, or Benson

Actually, it’s not new too him. He played a lot of games against D1 NCAA teams last year.

People are allowed to be concerned when there’s something to be concerned about (there is), just as you are allowed to be mindlessly optimistic about everything.

Why should we panic?
Wasn't that the book on him? A lack of compete.
From what I read and heard it was sort of an inconsistent evaluation in terms of compete. You’d have some people saying he’s this hyper competitive player but others saying he needs to work on his compete level. From what I’ve seen in the short time I’ve actually watched him play, it seems to me he doesn’t necessarily have a lack of compete but instead intensity at certain times in the course of play. compete and intensity being mostly relative, Smith can sometimes, imo, get caught analyzing the play instead of reacting. I think hes a smart player but instead of reading and reacting, he can sometimes read read read then react while others seem to be making things happen, not waiting for the perfect moment. That can work in lower levels of play, not on the level where everyone’s bigger, stronger, faster. I’m far from an expert, this is just my evaluation.

I’m not mindlessly optimistic. It’s actually part of my plan.
Of course, if you want to be worried and concerned over something you have absolutely no control over, that is your choice.

As I said before the draft, Will Smith will probably end up being a Nick Schmaltz type soft skilled "center" who's better suited on the wing. Or at least that's what we should view as the fat part of the bell curve for his range of outcomes.

nobodies in panic mode.
“Panic” is your word. I said “ relax.”
Some should take a deep breath. This all started because Zach Benson made the opening night roster. There started the comparison and worry.
My thought is that it’s been 2 games. He’s 18 and we should support his effort and growth. Celebrate it even. But that’s me.

I fully anticipate that Smith will turn the corner.
