You have to think (hope) we've clinched one of Celebrini, Demidov, or Levshunov.

If we select anyone else...
I am honestly OK if we do.

If we select one of Silayev, Yakemchuk, even Dickinson or Buium, I'll feel like the scouting team must know something and I'll be excited about the prospect.

If it's Catton or Iggy (at 2-4), I'll be super surprised and a little skeptical. If it's Parekh or Eiserman, I'll be pretty upset but I'll slowly get on board with hoping (which is kind of how I felt about Smith).

This quote from the recent Carter Yakemchuk Athletic article is genuinely hilarious:

“The one thing is he competes hard on defense. He’s very physical and he isn’t near close to maturity physically,” Davidson said. “When it comes to his defensive game, Carter just has to change his mentality a little bit and just say, ‘Hey, when they have the puck, I’ve got to defend, and when we have the puck, I’ve got to be on offense.’ As soon as he straightens that part out in his own mind, I think he’ll just become a much more complete player.”
Like, “once he realizes that you have to play defense when the other team has the puck he’ll be great” is just so genuinely funny.

i'm getting flashbacks to merkley except merkley didn't even know how hockey defense even worked.

I wouldn’t go so far as to compare Yakemchuk to Merkley defensively. And frankly a guy who is 6’3” and extremely aggressive physically will always have some degree of defense potential just from taking up more space and having an easier time getting gaps right.

I do like Yakemchuk as a prospect, but I think the way his defensive ability is framed compared to Parekh is always funny to me.

Can’t believe Rick would lie through his teeth like that. :sarcasm:

Helping coach youth hockey I will say that getting players to understand this “simple” concept is not as easy as it seems. It is a common issue that young players have knowing the difference between what to do when your team has the puck and what to do when your team doesn’t have the puck.

Obviously I would expect a top 10 draft pick to have that figured out but it still is not as crazy as it would seem.

This is obviously all part of the long con, where the Sharks draft Celebrini and everything goes right for him and them until, just prior to Game 7 of the 2028 Stanley Cup Finals, the Celebrinis announce that Macklin is quitting hockey at the most heart-wrenching moment possible, to cause maximum pain to the Sharks and their fans for what the Junior Sharks did to Rick.

Rick is definitely gonna use his role as premier hockey dad to cobra kai the Jr. Sharks to the national spotlight.

I totally believe you, but I have a hard time thinking an 18 year old who has played at the same level of hockey for three full seasons is just going to suddenly “get it”, you know? But stranger things have happened, prospects are voodoo.

Awfully impressive performances for both Zeev and Mack in that FF showdown.

Macklin just generates so much when he's on the ice. So good at finding those soft spots and getting himself in lanes for shots that other players just can't. Very good skating and competitiveness along the boards. He's the real deal.

Zeev LHS Rafalski vibes. Will be a menace when he gets stronger. So composed in all actions and so good at using his stick to close gaps and knock pucks away.

I really like Zeev. Amongst a lot of defensemen with IQ issues in this draft, Buium stands out by far in that regard.
