How do Flyers fans feel about Gauthier staying in school a year.

It is absolutely clear that he doesn’t want to attend college next year. Imagine if you had to go attend college in a different country speaking a different language when you will not use anything you learn in your classes in your life a quit after a year.

If a top 5 pick wants to sign you sign them even if they aren’t quite ready for the AHL.
You guys are overblowing the school aspect. The coursework is typically a joke. Even at good schools the athletes are on a different level. Don't want to call out any specifics unnecessarily.

It's absolutely clear that Levshunov doesn't want to attend college next year? Is there an interview I can watch somewhere?

Players have a massive amount of control over which route they want to take regarding staying in the NCAA or turning pro.

An example is going to be Smith, the Sharks can attempt to convince him of what is the best path for his development but in the end, he has the power.

This is just my casual thinking, but it feels like the NCAA is shifting in its development. It seems like it is becoming more like the CHL where the high-end offensively skilled players, who are mostly <20, don’t have to worry about their own end of the ice. Because of this I am not sure of the development benefit of playing a second or third year in the NCAA vs. moving to the AHL if they are already a top NCAA player.

I wouldn't see any reason to immediately export Levshunov to the AHL. First of all for the sake of his development, some continuity would be nice and secondly he hasn't shown that he's to good for that level. He's flashed his outrageous skill and the ability to take games over with moments of brilliance, but he wasn't a dominant player shift by shift. He also wasn't fully given the keys in all situations. I'd expect him to run the show next season and be a legitimate Hobey Baker candidate.

Wonder if the Devils had the season they had, not because of goaltending, nor injuries to key players, but purely in light of the fact we owned that conditional.

Not remotely trying to suggest they missed on purpose, merely alluding to the superstition re the fate of our picks savagely weighted against us at seemingly every turn.

PIT clawing their pick higher & higher this year.

Who would've thought Devils were missing this year? I know they weren't favourites, but missing the POs?

I was looking fwd to rooting for Timo & the pick conditions, while unlikely, would've given an extra invest in interest.

Meh. We all sort of knew that by the all-star break.

I highly doubt it. The players don't really care about a draft pick at the risk of a season. Reality is goaltending was bad, Mercer took a step back and injuries hit them hard. I expect them to have a much better season next year.

Oh I know they, players, team et al, were fully expecting/hoping to at least be in the post season mix, I was more tongue in cheek wondering if our cursed luck has jinxed them in a hoodoo superstition kinda way. Had they left that as a 1st pick unconditional, where would they be now... haha

I mean if our cursed luck was a thing then Pittsburgh wouldn't be currently on the outside looking in.

Interestingly with the Devils pick, the best case scenario would’ve been getting pick 29. We are looking at getting pick 40-42 right now which isn’t terrible. Worst case scenario would’ve been the Devils making the playoffs as a high seed and losing in the first two rounds which would’ve given us the 61st pick. The Devils not making the third round last year was the bigger miss just because we would’ve had another potential first that was top 10 protected this year.

6 points back with 4 games left for the sharks and 5 for the Hawks. San jose would need to gain 7 points out of 8 to catch the Hawks.

Here's something cursed: I am going to the game tomorrow, and I will be actively rooting for the sharks to win. I know we don't have it clinched, but I don't even care. YOPO (you only pay-200-for-an-upper-bowl-ticket once-per-time-the-sharks-come-to-town).

$200 for an upper bowl ticket? Jesus, I wouldn't pay that even when the Sharks were good.

What's wrong with you?

Just kidding, enjoy the thing. Hopefully I will be able to travel across the pond some day and witness the Sharks getting shut out in a 9-0 loss at home or something.
