The Rangers tried to get one after Alexei Cherepanov passed away unexpectedly. I don’t remember if they succeeded.
The Rangers did get one for Cherepanov. I'm surprised the Leafs haven't asked for one for Amirov (sshhh!). I believe Cherepanov's heart failure happened during a KHL game and I believe Jagr was on the bench when it happened.

I don't really like the idea of compensation for a death. It's simply bad luck that can happen to any player. A player could also blow a knee before they reach the NHL. Where do you draw the line? Luc Bourdon died in a motorcycle accident at age 21 and there was no compensation to the Canucks.

The rule is that they have to turn down a contract offer, so likely the Rangers did have a contract offer to Cherepanov.. where Toronto never did as Amirov was under contract the whole time.

I could be wrong and they made an exemption for the Rangers there but with Bourdon he was already signed and playing, so that makes sense why they never got anything.

I remember the Rangers seeking blessing from other NHL teams (I believe at a league governors meeting or something like that) and it got approved. Special exception...there was nothing in NHL rules for it. Pretty sure Cherepanov didn't turn down any contract offers (was under contract to KHL team) and NYR had forever to sign him as he was a Russian player and only 19 years old when he died in the middle of a season.

Do the Leafs get a pick for their 1st rounder who passed away. Amirov?

Thanks, I completely forgot the outcome.

I don’t mind compensation for players that pass away. It’s so rare and tragic, it’s not like a team can prepare for that event.

I don t I have seen many highlights and analysis, I just don t see him as a very good puck mover (yet?) I am very impressed by the fact he has been playing in the KHL but it s just those aspects with the puck that makes me think he should be below Dickinson Buium but again it is a question of taste.
You seem to be correct judging by Mitch Brown’s player cards

You really can't evaluate a player's skills by KHL stats when he's 17 years old. Many NHL teams are high on his potential to produce at the NHL level. The kid got PP time at age 17. Almost unheard of for a D in the KHL.

He just turned 18 last month.

It’s not stats, it’s games tracked. Literally watching him 20 games and he was poor in transition.

Is there an enticing player? Yeah of course, he’s 6’7 and an elite skater. But he’s not particularly good with the puck. You’re hoping to draft an elite shutdown defenceman and hope he improves the puck skills. In fact he apparently needs to improve defensively too. Someone that is 6’7 and skates like him should be far more aggressive in preventing zone entries. But maybe that’s due to coaching, I don’t know. Or maybe he’s tentative because he doesn’t want to be sent down to the MHL.

Rewatching some Iginla games, I think he's pretty much a dream project for Nicholas and St Louis. Always the right instincts, skills just need to catch up in some areas. If our skills coach can't make a 1st liner out of him, he should be fired lol

easy sennecke for me, cant teach what that dude has in his head, go watch him, he makes the plays before his body has the ability to catch up his mind, seems like he still has some kinks to work out since his growth spurt but I think he has highest upside outside the top 2
I really like Sennecke. Amazing skillset and high upside. He'll likely need at least another season in the OHL.

Interesting user name by the way. However I think you should have named yourself "uppercase". :naughty:

Welcome aboard, Rookie!

On the other hand, here is “can’t pass” and “not that skilled north-south” player Cayden Lindstrom

View attachment 877451
Do people say he isn't that skilled north south? I've always thought that was clearly the strongest part of his game.

I think he does miss short passes fairly often, but I think that's the kind of thing that gets ironed out as he gets used to his range.

Those stats mean nothing for a 17 year old Dman playing in that league (KHL). The eye test by scouts employed by NHL teams like his puck skills.

I feel he's getting the Slaf treatment on here.

I don't think his puck skills are a big issue, I just don't see the offensive upside that people are projecting on him. Not a lot of deception, not much creativity, okay passing. I think he can be a good #2 at his higher end, but I'd say the chances of him being a Chara or a Hedman are slim to none.

To me it means a lot if I’m picking Top 10 in a draft absolutely loaded with defencemen. Silayev would be a great project on a team that is close to competing, not a team desperate for talent.

Basu on BPM sport today said Lindstrom is the wildcard of the draft. He hears he could go as soon as 3-4 but also drop around 10-11-12, because there’s questions about him.

Also said Sennecke is also a wildcard but the other way around, he’ll rise.

Lol. David Fischer turned down a contract offer ?. Well if anybody was going to turn down a contract from us glad it was him.
