It'd be inconceivable that forwards go 1-3.
Teams love size and potential 1C's, I'd say it's very possible Lindstrom goes top 3. I'm less sure about Demidov since smaller wingers are the most likely players to slide on draft day, but I would be shocked if he's still on the board outside of the top 5.

Rachel Doerrie continues to fail.

It's possible unless the medicals are scary, or they don't think he projects at C. I wouldn't be shocked if Demidov or Lindstrom are still there outside the top 5, I'd be a bit shocked if both were picked within the top 5, but I also don't bet against stupid tanking teams that can't stop tanking.

They went 1-4 last year. 1-3 this year is unlikely but it’s not inconceivable. It would just take Anaheim to surprise people.

Yes 1-4 last year when they were consensus to do so. This year the consensus is pretty much that after Celebrini goes, there's 4 defenseman that are highly touted among NHL scouts. With teams picking there that desperately need to add impact defenseman to their groups.

I agree that a d will go in one of those spots but it's just our luck that the top 3 are forwards and we get stuck with 2nd rate or a d we don't need as per usual

Our luck also allowed us to get Slafkovsky at 1 in 2022 a year after we made a cup finals.

The Habs are going to get a good player and I wouldn't necessarily call them 2nd rate. In fact, it's quite possible that Catton has a better NHL career than say a Lindstrom or one of Iginla or Helenius outperforms a Demidov long term. The saying around these parts - "why can't we have nice things" is tired and just not true.

What if: the habs take him...? BPA

Carter Yakemchuk

Unlikely - similar profile to Logan Mailloux with mechanical issues skating. Also other teams are very high on him, so being a RD he may go before we even get to the stage.

That being said, if he's there, I just don't think he's the investment they'd make.

We could have drafted Michkov last year. That was our choice not to. We’ve actually had pretty good luck of late in drafts.

If the so-called Big 3 forwards are all gone, I think we’ll just take Eiserman or Iginla and let Chris Nicholas and/or Jay Pandfo work their magic, as needed.

He's shown he can do it all, he just hasn't done it often. The Habs brass has known him for a while apparently so if they pass it's because they don't believe he can fix his consistency on that side of the puck.

If they do pick him, I'm very confident he's gonna be labelled a steal a few years after the draft.
This is why management and development is so insanely important.. after the balls to draft Slaf (i had him 3rd) hugo has earned some serious respect..

Still effing confused on the Mesar pick, but eh, swing and a miss.

Agreed.....I think the chances of both Demidov and Lindstrom going in the top 3 is pretty darn close to zero. I wouldn't be shocked to see both fall out of the top 4 or even top 5 as we have all seen what happens to GM's at the draft table when there are multiple highly rated Dmen.

I strongly believe that Levshunov is the favourite to go 2nd OA and although Dickinson seems to be dropping in the silly public rankings I expect him to be in the top 5 as well. Silayev is a huge wildcard who could also easily push into the top 5 as could any of Buium, Parekh, and Yakemchuk although I think Parekh could easily fall to the back of the top ten or even out of the top ten.

Habs take him with Jets pick
If you mean Vanacker, then we will have a great draft regardless of who we take with our own pick in the first round. A draft of one of Dickinson/Catton/ Yamechuck and Vanacker would provide us with two great building blocks for the future.

But I think that we will have to move up to be able be in a position to take Vanacker.

when's the last time such a high pick was drafted out of the MHL ? Podkolzin? Kravtsov was in the KHL, mitchkov as well. I trust the scouts but I am having a hard time forming an opinion on Demidov because of it. I mean, he is impressive but so was Tyson Jost out of the BCHL

Where does the overall dislike, disrespectful, in some cases hateful attitude towards Finns come from? Habs fans seem to love targeting Finnish people in any way they can and there is a noticeable trend of negativity/hate in the past 4-5 towards Finns from them. Would be nice to know what exactly is wrong with the Finnish nationality, though whenever I see a person bring this up, they get attacked too. Seems bizarre how every single Finnish prospect and even NHL player gets hate and disrespect
Post traumatic syndrome after the KK, Kakko, Laine, Puljujarvi fiasco, cant blame them...

Definitely... I don't trust this league anymore, and will scoff at using a top 10 pick on it. They can pick fruitcakes with lower picks I do not care much about those.

You could also add Kemell, Lundell
It seems like the soft spot for Finnish player is the 2nd round.

Meanwhile Catton has 2 assists through 8 periods and one of them shouldnt have been awarded,

Forget the playoff it was dead for hin from first minute with his team and PG who is the best team in the WHL, the u18 will decide his fate.
