No one would take Helenius over Dickinson. Highly unlikely anyone takes him over Catton. At least no one has suggested it. Not sure the argument you’re trying to make.
Goldenhands definitely suggested it. No disrespect to him, he called our last two draft picks, but I wouldn't have agreed with him on either (Nemec, Michkov, and I'd definitely take Catton first). Time will tell lol

Well if Goldenhands sees something special about a player, who am I, a mere peasant, to question him? I did that once in 2022 and I was wrong.

Admittedly I haven't seen Eiserman much. But if he is a pure sniper, I don't know if I would be adverse to taking him. If he has wheels to keep up, some defense can be taught. Caufield has taken strides on that side of the puck this year. We need a sniper to put opposite Caufield.

Slaf - Suzuki - Eiserman
Newhook - Dach - Caufield
He definitely has some wheels. He may not be the fastest guy in the draft but he’s not the slowest either. Decent size too. The physical part of his game is there.

There are concerns around decision making and drive. He’s also not seen as a physical player.

If the Canadiens think he can be coached - great. Take him.

He's shown he can do it all, he just hasn't done it often. The Habs brass has known him for a while apparently so if they pass it's because they don't believe he can fix his consistency on that side of the puck.

If they do pick him, I'm very confident he's gonna be labelled a steal a few years after the draft.
The upside is what makes me want to take him. I think a player with that kind of talent is worth the risk. But they need to do their homework on him.

In a recent interview, he was really defensive in his answers surrounding his overall game. He’s only 17 but seems a little immature. If he’s not coachable then he’s not worth it. The Habs will do their homework on him for sure.

At this point, guys I'd be REALLY surprise to see the habs pick....Demidov, Catton, Helenius and Eiserman. Guys I wouldn't be surprised, Lindstrom, Yakemchuck, Dickinson, Iginla and Brandsegg-Nygard. Size and/or, D's and/or, commitment on all 3 zones.

I don't want to be rude but not many people here have the capacities or time to assess if a prospect playing in a professional mens league is better or not than a prospect playing in CHL or NCAA.

I think Helenius and Demidov will be on our radar. Helenius plays the way we want to play from a ‘culture’ perspective. Demidov is nothing like Michkov and I think they will debate him seriously if he is available with our pick. As WTK mentioned our best insider (Basu) has been on the record several times suggesting that they will not dismiss him like Michkov.

Yeah. But not everybody talking like it's indeed an opinion.

That being said, if the hat fits, wear it.

Basu/Godin got a listener question about Demidov again - and they are making it pretty clear that Michkov's effort without the puck and complete disregard for any zone not named the offensive zone were the issue. Demidov's competitive fire and ability to compete in all 3 zones are not an issue and therefore he'd be a target for the Habs if available.

If I remember correctly and am not getting it confused with the podcast after the draft, but that Basu knew a couple people in the Habs org who are big fans of Demidov.
Well it’s too bad they played themselves out of this matter then.

You don't have to write in my opinion everytime. It always is. That's funny....if I say there's NO WAY this guy scores that many goals....as definite the sentence is....how in the world is that not an opinion..lol. If it wouldn't be...I wouldn't be writing on a forum, I'd be playing the lottery....lol

Here's something you can do...whenver you find somebody with a definite opinion, bookmark it so you could use it later. People love to do that here.

I have Demidov No2. I'm not dismissing him. I hope they don't either. Though, if there,s any sane team in this league, he'd be gone before we talk.

I also have him 2nd I might be biased against defenceman because they are the absolute last thing we need right now but his offensive ability is something we cannot pass on if we are lucky enough that he is still on the board at 6 or 7 when we are expected to pick

Yep Im probably the only one over here who has Helenius over Catton, but Catton seems to get more love on HF than he gets among scouts, in his mid season ranking, Bobby Mac has Helenius over Catton and his ranking is a result of scouts polled.

HP has Helenius over Catton, the scouting central has Helenius ranked 1st among euro skaters, over Demidov. Catton listed 9th best skaters on the north american list.

Ive watched both players alot and Ive no doubt about my take, I see Helenius as a solid top 6 center while Catton will struggle with the physicality of the NHL, he is all finess, no power and cheats alot positionally on the ice.

It is very fair that if you want Helenius to play for your club next year you should take him but Catton has a lot of growth potential, it seems like NHL teams are scared to develop players and are looking more on making sure they don't miss with their pick.

This is a bit similar to the Lundell vs Jarvis situation from 2020.

He really has a weird skating style like a wide stance. His shoting style somehow reminds me Alexander Semin. I want to see him play in the KHL.
you find? that was just great edgework to catch a pass in stride

watch as of 17 seconds below, i don't find his stride to be all that wide

I am not a skating specialist maybe somebody could assess but it seems like his back is very hunched (very Jason Robertson like) when skating and a lot of wasted motion that being said it is obvious not affecting his game but again I would love to see him play against KHL players.

Despite all the talk about the D in this draft it still wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Celebrini, Demidov and Lindstrom were the first 3 players drafted. Then HuGo and BobPointe will have a tough call to make (assuming we’re not drafting 1 or 2OA).
