If you have the choice do you pick Catton or Iginla ?

My fan opinion is that we should be happy with both because its extremely unlikely either of them bust and we are looking in both cases at high odds potential top six player with different profile.

Iginla would be a terrific, terrific fit with the players we have tho. There is also a little something with him that makes me believe he is an obvious homerun pick. His name, his face, athelticism, i dont know. It reminds me of the Tkachuks brother, simply a "can't go wrong, winner" factor.

I have a massive crunch on Tij and for the fit and his overall profile i prefer him but i would be very excited by Catton and i believe there is offensive star potential here.

The dealbreaker for me would be the interview process to be honest which i won't make obviously but from what i know(which is only on-ice), Iginla by a razor thin margin and i would be very excited by Catton too.

You, who do you choose and why?

Iginla as well, like the gridy play he brings , and a sure pick as well.
Let's say we have a top 5 pick, Iginla will go out around #8 or #10.
We could even droped a couple spot and still grab him, that would be a awesome move, but the risk is there we still loose him.

Yes, honestly, if we have the 2nd overall pick and management judge he is our pick, id rather we grab him there than drop a couple of spot. Those B-type picks (outside the top 20) are not enough valuable imo to risk losing your guy high in the draft.

If we drop it because we know who everyone want to pick that why we didn’t drop when drafting KK or Reinbacher.

I'd take Slaf's upside any day of the week over Eiserman. In fact Eiseman's been trending the same way Shane Wright did in his draft year but nose diving even harder.
But unlike Wright, he continues to produce. He's scoring more than a goal per game as he has since he was 12.

Slaf will be a different kind of player. Does a lot more without the puck and can drive the play. But Eiserman is a pure finisher. I use the example of Brett Hull, a guy who didn't really do anything really well but score goals. Where would you draft that guy? How much value does the top goal scorer have in a draft? I'd say it'd be a lot.

He's got decent size and can skate. His playmaking isn't bad but he doesn't use it. How much of the rest of his game can be coached? You can't teach goal scoring.

My worry with Eiserman is center depth while adding another one way winger like Caufield. Not sure you would have enough of a balanced team with that kind of setup. I think it would be great to have a Left handed center to play with Dach being able to swith them based on needs between center and wing.
Then it's a question of need vs BPA. If you consider Eiserman BPA (and I'm not saying he is) then I think you have to take him. For now play him and Caufiled on separate lines. Which line do you send your checkers after?

And imagine if down the road they were on the same line. That'd be insane.

I agree you should always draft BPA. But for me a Winger is less likely to be BPA then a C or a D ;)

These wingers get a lot of their value on the PP. I fear a situation a la Karlsson vs Brent Burns with two unidimensional players sharing a role which should not be shared ;)

I just watch Toronto in the regular season and the play-offs and I don't want anything to do with it.

Eiserman is not inside driven enough for me so I don't really know how well his goal scoring will translate when it matters most.

I'd rather take 10-15 goals less from Iginla a year and be comfortable that he's scoring his goals inside the dots.

If a guy is winning Richards, I don't care if he's a winger or a center or a blueliner. At the end of the day goals are the most valuable contribution a player can offer. We haven't had a top ten goal guy since Richer.

And the idea of having TWO elite goalscorers should excite everyone. We haven't had that since Shutt/Lafleur. Btw all those guys were wingers.

I am talking more like this
MTL #5
OTT # 8 - #28 (Boston)

MTL trade #5
for
OTT #8 + #28

OTT pick : Dickinson
MTL pick : Iginla

Then trade #25 (WPG) + #28 (Boston)
for a better pick (between #15-#17) and grab Connelly

Iginla + Connelly would be a awesome draft.

Does the difference in goal scoring ability between Iginla and Eiserman big enough in Eiserman favor to compensate the edge in pretty much every other facets of the game in Iginla's favor??

They're not taking Connelly, there's teams with him on their ND list and you can bet thousands one such team is Montreal

Again, the usual caveat applies here. You watch these games and I don't. I can't argue hard one way or the other. I wanted Wright for the track record and we all saw how that panned out.

But... People didn't think Bossy was going to be effective inside the dots either. Brett Hull averaged 50 goals over 82 in the playoffs as well. It's not like these guys couldn't score in the postseason.

Maybe you're right. Maybe he's the second coming of Marner. I don't know. And maybe he's the next Laine and disappoints. But we always talk about BPA here. Always talking about highest ceiling... this guy has to be right up there.

Maybe. I mean, that's what our scouts will have to figure out.

I watched Bob Mackenzie's mid season draft list and it was really interesting. He had Eiserman at 4 (2nd highest forward) and then up came Lidstrom. Big, strong, gets points... and then Mackenzie says "Could be a number one center or a strong number two..."

I don't want a number two center with my first round pick. I want a guy who's going to kill it. I think at a minimum you're going to get a boatload of goals from Eiserman. I just don't know enough about these other players - which is why I'm not an authority here. I'm just a fan who wants to finally see some Canadiens on some scoring lists and winning some cups. To do that you have to score goals and we haven't been able to do that in three or four decades.

The guy I keep thinking of is Bossy. I don't want us to miss out. The other stuff can be taught. So yeah, I'll go against the grain and say I'd draft Eiserman.

Btw, my solemn word here. If we don't draft Eiserman and he pans out elsewhere, I will not be here with 'I told you so' posts. I'm speaking purely as an armchair QB who's read about but not watched these prospects. Moreover, if we get a guy like Catton or Lidstrom, I'll be extremely happy. It's a great list of forwards.

Nahh 2nd OV we pick Demidov 100%

Well i don't know who we pick 100%.

My point was simply that if we got the 2nd, we pick with conviction the player we identified and dont trade down. Whomever it is, and even if its a LD or Tij. I prefer management showing conviction and confidence in its pick than trading down for more B assets. Its not a bad move to move down and recoup assets maybe for a team who traded many picks but not for us.

Why the ND ?

Snapchat swastika
Kicked off 4 teams in a short period of time.
Treats his teammates poorly.

There's an athletic article on it, that's not a kid the Habs are touching for a variety of reasons. Culture is important and I don't think they'll want any first round backlash after Mailloux. Particularly when you think about the sizable Jewish community in Montreal and some of the awful events they've endured the past few years.

Ottawa need a RHD. Dickinson is a LHD.
I see them trying to go after Leshunov. But, he will go early.
If he is not there, Jiricek, EJ Emery or Mews could be a target for them with there 2nd R1.

I'd be very open to giving up a d prospect to move up and grab Iginla in addition to someone like Catton, Demidov, Lindstrom, etc.
That’s quite the jump man…..he’s going in that 10-15 range.

Winnipeg 1st, 2nd round pick and Engstrom…..that’s what it would cost to jump 14 spots or so.

But ya….Walking out of this draft with Lindstrom and Iginla would be EPIC!
