il respect your opinion. I feel like the only person who doesn't like Silayev, I just don't see him being elite in the nhl
I dont like Silayev either. I feel like hes a pipe dream for a Hedman. Not as bad as Simashev, but hes more of a Larsson than Hedman. Mind you, an Adam Larsson is still awesome but I hope for a cornerstone in this top 5.

Yeah put me in the no Silayev camp as well. I'd much sooner pick Dickinson if we were going to go defence yet again.

If next year has a top 15 similar to this, it'll be really exciting if the Calgary picks ends up around #11-13. Need to hope they keep Markstrom and look to stay afloat after dealing Hanifin and Tanev.

I don’t think we trade to get another top 15 pick. There’s too much fire on the ‘accelerate the rebuild by trading lower rated first round picks to get 21-23 year olds’ rumours
They shouldn’t do it this year. I don’t think it’s the type of move that’s relevant every year.

I liked the Dach move because it’s not everyday a team wanna sell a 21 yr old 6’4 center, liked the Newhook deal less because he doesn’t have the same ceiling as Dach.

The story I heard about him last night from the parent of a current 16U Long Island Gull player suggests that Connelly has some serious issues. I’m not going to say what it was as I don’t want to expose HF Boards to possible defamation accusations but if I told you, you would not want the Habs to go anywhere near the kid. Nothing criminal but really screwed up stuff.
I see if that's true I agree stay away

Guys. Can you convince me that Lidstrom will be a better Nhl player than Berkly Catton.

Lindstrom's vision and IQ seems to be very average so for a center...it is not really good.

If the argument is only the size difference... i mean my late grand Mother who knew s...about hockey could have been a scout...

Martin St Louis had the best quote ever about size and scouting:

On Rds about 15 years ago when St Louis was in his early 30s and won already the Art Ross ....he was asked why the scouts missed him at the draft?

St Louis's answer:

The dumbs scouts came to see me at the Universiry of Vermont time and time again......until that I played a bad game...

On the other hand..they went seeing big tall players...until that they played a good one...
At one point you need to draft big guy. Im sure you put Slafkovsky on the market and Caufield and you are gonna receive more Phone call for Slafkovsky. Winners team have few small guys and full of big guys. Marchessault was the only one sub 6ft in Vegas. Tampa had point, kucherov. But those guys been selected in 3rd and 2rd round. That was a gift thats all. We already have Caufield, Suzuki sub 6ft. We need size to surroud them and build a bigger team is the way to contender

Catton scored his 43rd last night, very likely he breaks 100 pts as a draft eligible forward in the WHL. Not easily done. Especially on a trash team
Yep and people prefer Lidstrom just because size difference....

Suzuki in always healthy at 5.11

Not Dach at 6.3...

If Catton is better you draft him...thats all.

Lidstrom has not a good Iq.

All about growth and projection with Lindstrom. I don’t see average IQ at all - above average but inexperienced is my read on the games I’ve seen. He only started playing C this year and has done exceptionally well adjusting. That’s a huge change for a draft eligible player playing at the top of the lineup and some stumbles are to be expected.

His style of play has a strong chance of translating well to the NHL. High percentage plays are the norm with him and he’s got a pretty strong off-puck game. I love how versatile he is offensively - he can play with speed (both creating and receiving picks in stride), great stops and starts when the play slows down, he can grind and dominates in the cycle, he’s excellent in transition, he can play net front or half wall, plays in traffic and is great at getting to the middle of the ice, he can create plays and finish them… a genuinely dynamic player that is dominating games with his skill, not just his size. While he’s not as natural of a playmaker as I’d like at this stage for a C, everything else has him lined up to be an all-situations, game changing forward.

Amongst his best attributes is that he’s very competitive. Battles all over the ice and he’s engaged at both ends - something Catton has yet to show. I’m not worried at all about his ability to play on both sides of the puck and the physical dimension of his play is an added bonus. The tools he possesses are simply exceptional and proper development could see him excelling in multiple areas at the next level. The speed, frame, reach, and competitiveness are going to guarantee an NHL player if nothing else goes his way.

The amount of growth this year and what you can project moving forward has him standing out in a way that few players do. While there’s a lot to like about Catton, his style of play is not as easily translatable and it’s unlikely he’ll impact the game in as many ways as Lindstrom if they both put it all together. If they both end up on the wing, I’m taking Lindstrom without much thought. From what I’ve heard he’s also a great kid and teammate. Different players but shades of Slaf v Cooley arguments.

Comparables are tricky. A high-skill Boone Jenner is a bit antithetical and so is a high-compete PL Dubois.

The pens had Kessel, Crosby, Guentzel, Kunitz, Rust, Hornqvist and Sheary in their top 9. Malkin, Bonino and Cullen were the only ones above 6'. In 2016-2016 they added Hagelin, another sub 6'. So four of the 8 last SC winners had a majority of sub 6'1 guys.

Stop with that BS.

But wouldn't Silayev have the same risk as Demidov? What if he also signs another 3-4 year deal after being drafted?
There was an article on TVA sports with Torpedo GM regarding Bogdan Konyuskov and he told the reporter that they had no intention to retain the kid once his actual contract expires, that they would let him go if thats his desire. But of course, there is some risk there as well, Habs and Bobrov are much more informed about the matter that I can be, we can only speculate if Habs would go there or not. Silayev is signed for another 3 yrs if Im not wrong and knowing Habs want their kids in their system as soon as possible, I highly doubt they draft Silayev, as attractive as the upside can be.

I understood this mentality in the 90s about undersize players.

..but since 20 years nobody will convince me that forwards at 5.10 and 5.11 players is a problem on a team even when you have 5 or 6 of them in your top 9

Started watching a lot of Saginaw to watch Beck but I am fully on board with Parekh. The confidence, great skating, amazing puck handling, as well as a bomb of a shot. He looks like a future star in the making, the defensive side is something that needs to be improved upon but I have no doubt he has the intelligence to develop his defensive game quickly. He is my #3 behind Demidov and Celebrini, might be a hot take but I think he has point per game potential.

Yep and I remember in 2013 I looked at the 30 best scorers at the end of the season....and 14....of them were less rhan 6.0

That 6.0 shit and 200 pounds is bs

I disagree with your use of the adjective great, otherwise I agree with your post.
I guess it depends on your idea of great. I’d say that Hutson, Guhle, RB and Mailloux look like great young players/prospects.

None of them are great NHLers at this moment though.

What do you guys think of Aron Kiviharju
This kid use to be a top 5 last year.
He hasn't play a lot this year.
He's a bit small as well.
Could he be a good pick with the WPG pick ?
