Regardless of one's stance on Russia/Ukraine, the whataboutism, etc.

IIHF bungled the Israel situation. Either you don't ban them for their country's military actions, or you ban them and stick by it. I lean towards the former across the board, but more important than my alignment is the governing body's consistency in applying it's rules.

They missed the mark with america setting the middle east on fire through most of the 21st century

If Habs get the no.5 pick and the top 4 stay the same, it'd be the exact same bottom 5 teams as last year. When was the last time that happened I wonder

Yep. Can't stand the double standards with them.

The whole point of these tournaments is to find out which country is producing the best talent. Just because the countries sportswash doesn't mean the IIHF has to stoop to their level by punishing their politics.

Usually the D at the 10-15 range at this time gets taken in the 5-8 range come the draft.

Not sure if it's going to happen this year, since the top 5 might end-up 1 forward + 4 Ds.

time to package picks for a very good player

That is what i think too.

Our 1st + WPG 1st + Struble could land us a massive young forward.

If there is no enticing forward available on the trade market i would lean Tij Iginla. He is an awesome pick. Dont think Demidov or Lindstrom will be here when we pick as it looks more and more likely we will end up 8th-12th OV instead of 5OV.

With a top 10 pick, a young 2nd pair dman like Struble and another 1st, we can afford to call teams and ask for big names.

If I were the Habs I would try everything possible to package winnipeg 1st + other picks + maybe player to trade up. I think the top 15 in this year draft is quite solid. Having 2 x top 15 picks could bring us valuable assets.

A team with no prospects like the Pens could be a good partner for that. Give them Wpg 1st and 12 x 4th round picks.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Ask the Kings how Dubois is working out.

With so much expensive dead weight still on this team ( Gallagher, Armia, etc.) adding one more expensive player may be akin to putting a Band-Aid on a cancer.

The previous bad management decisions have come home to roost. We still have to play the long game. There are no quick fixes.

I don't want to jinx anything....but take a look at Winnipeg. Granted, they have some games in hand on a few teams. But it is completely realistic that they come back down to earth.

They aren't catching those 5 teams in front of them.

I can see a scenario where Vegas, Colorado, Edmonton, Carolina, Leafs and Tampa pass them. All better teams on paper. That puts them at 21st.

We could legitimately have 5th and 21st in this draft. Demidov and Iginla are possibilities.

And......outside shot at Mack.

If we got Mack and Iggy 2.0 we are full steam ahead.

There's absolutely no way Iginla falls to 21.

Yes, riser don't fall, they usually rise :D

You can dream of Macklin Celebrini dropping at 21 also, I won't stop that dream but the chance of that happening is very unlikely.
I won't use the word 'unlikely'. Instead I will use the number 0.
