Definitely, the group needs some bolstering. Hopefully they can make some adds before this upcoming draft.

I'm sure the priority right now is on evaluating the NHL roster. Scouting may be on the backburner with SS's tenure of evaluating the organizational structure being cut short by Dorion's firing. Along with the disastrous season as a whole, with fires popping up left and right.

I am a bit surprised no additions have been made yet, but it is understandable under the circumstances.
I suppose the "better" more experienced amateur and pro scouts are already employed and the Senators would have to outbid their current employers to hire them next off-season.

There aren't any superstar potential guys outside of Celebrini, but this doesn't seem like a bad draft, I'd be happy with Eiserman/Lindstrom/Helenius/Dickinson
No Levshunov?

A couple of weeks back I was listening to The Drive and AJ was alluding to the fact that the scouting/drafting strategy will definitely change, and basically mentioned that the previous regime was always trying to target a specific player and instructed their scouts to identify those players, and the new mandate now is to simply just pick the best available player. He seemed to have some knowledge on how scouting and drafting was being handled by Dorion at the helm, and how it will change.

I've been hammering this drum for awhile. Was beyond obvious the last 3 years that the team was choosing between a limited set of players who fit their criteria of being toolsy (good size/speed) and tough, no matter if they were ranked/expected to go much lower.

No
I think we'll end up around the 10th OA pick... Who do we take? Iginla?

With the Boston pick, Colton Roberts if available?

Dreaming is good

Levshunov?

I did one shot at Tankathon and got Celebrini. I am now dreaming in technicolor! :)

As I read these different articles about this upcoming draft, I wish that they would say LD/RD when they talk about defensemen.

I see that Aragorn mentioned that Carter Yakemchuk and Artyom Levshunov were RDs though.

1st Rd. Carter Yakemchuk RD ---- Cayden Lindstrom LW ---- Artyom Levshunov RD
1st Rd. Sacha Boisvert C/LW ---- Igor Chernyshov LW/RW ---- Maxim Massé RW

2nd Rd. Tomas Lavois RD ---- Cole Beaudoin C/LW
2nd Rd. Carson Wetsch RW ---- Raoul Boilard C/LW
Glad you have included the "RD" when talking about a defenseman. Very helpful.

Seems like a year where there are a stable of similar quality players in the 2-12 range. Getting a guy like Berkeley Catton at 10 would be awesome.

I am not surprised with Silayev at 2OA .. After Celebrini the next 4 can go in just about any order

  1. Celebrini
  2. Five of 10 scouts surveyed by TSN listed Silayev at No. 2 and the lowest ranking he received was a No. 6.
  3. Rankings for Levshunov among the 10 scouts surveyed ranged from No. 3 to No. 6.
  4. Eiserman received only two second-place votes; three third-place votes; two seventh-place votes and one each for Nos. 5, 6 and 9.
  5. Scouts surveyed ranked Lindstrom as high as No. 3 and no lower than No. 8.
  6. Two of the 10 scouts surveyed ranked Demidov at No. 2, behind Celebrini, and he was top five in the eyes of another five scouts.
  7. In our scouting survey, three scouts ranked Dickinson in their top five, including one who slotted him at No. 3, but two others had him outside their top 10s.
  8. Seven of 10 scouts had Helenius, the 5-foot-11 Finnish centre in their top 10 though none put him in their top five.
So is Bob's List a FAIL @Tuna99 ? You might want to change your pass/fail criteria

Bobby Mac's Mid Season Ranking is out.

Surprise pick at #2 with Silayev, but at that size I am not surprised that most scouts are salivating at the potential.

ok i guess that's it for any Levshunov dreams.

With reign of Melnyk/Dorion over, I really hope we don't have a reflexive anti-Russian stance in our drafting. Demidov is really intriguing and he has rejected offers to sign a contract with his KHL affiliate, opening the door to him coming over next year to play in NA.

Eiserman is going to make someone look brilliant or really stupid. He is an elite shot with really good stick-handling and speed, but is guilty of tunnel vision and selfish play. To complicate things even further, he is young, turning 18 in late August. Is he just immature or are these fatal flaws?

I am not super sold on Helenius. I just don't see enough there to really get excited about, despite his good numbers in the Finnish men's league. But who knows, I could be missing something.

If we could nab Bransegg-Nygard late in the 1st, it would be amazing. He has that dawg in him that would mesh well with Tkachuk, Kelly, Greig, Pinto and, down the road, Ostapchuck.

The era of refusing to draft Russians out of Russia needs to end.

They represent some of the best value picks in recent years, particularly on day 2 of the draft.

Agreed on Brandsegg-Nygard. Surprised he's as low as he is. Looks to me like a pretty safe bet to make it as a 2nd/3rd line guy and has some goal scoring potential with his excellent shot.

Any opinions on EJ Emery? 6’3 185 RHD, commited to UND.

Claims to be the fastest player at USNTDP and to model his game after K’Andre Miller.

Father played for the rough riders in the 80s.

These are comments from MyNHLDraft who have the Sens taking him at 31OA in a mockdraft .. I guess that would be Boston's pick in the DCat trade

EJ Emery's Player Profile

David Saad - Dobber Prospects - November 18th: "A reliable and towering presence on the backend, Emery has shown great aptitude for being a shutdown defenseman; especially when it comes to defending the rush, his anticipation combined with his superior speed and size make him a tough wall to climb. But what sets him apart from the similarly styled members of his team is his play on the puck."

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - November 8th: "On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, the 6-foot-3 Emery skated well for his size. While Hutson is more of the point-producer, Emery helps get the play started by retrieving the puck and then playing a more passive game."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - November 8th: "Emery owns and commands his ice defensively, continues to show growth handling and transporting pucks, and has major steps that he can continue to take in his development. He's not going to be a power-play guy in upper levels, but he defends and skates well enough to project as an effective five-on-five defender and potential penalty killer."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - November 1st: "He is strong on gaps and retrievals and has the potential to make a lot of NHL stops. Offense is a minor question in his game, but he can move pucks well enough and has the requisite skill to potentially be a secondary puck-mover in the NHL."

Grain of salt on all of these but there are some consistencies

A little more

USNTDP games are often available on Onhockey So given there is a chance to take a RHD later in the 1st probably be worth checking out. The USNTDP U-18 team is no where near as strong as it has been some years with respect to projected draft picks in the 1st round

I'd be happy to blacklist them entirely based on what's going on in Ukraine.

IMO Ott should target drafting Cayden Lindstrom C/LW with their 1st OA pick, he already has NHL size & skill set &could be around where they could be drafting. He would add more size, more toughness, more hitting, better two way defensive play & will be much harder to play against & you can never have enough centres. Bob MacKenzie has him at #5 & while I think Ott could be picking around 7th there are two other guys who could get drafted before him in Demidov RW & Dickenson LD. It also wouldn't be difficult & they have some assets to move up a spot or two.

With their next pick (Boston conditional 1st rd pick) which will likely be late in the draft they should target a guy like EJ Emery RD (SOA) for their 3rd pairing down the road in a tadem with Kleven on the back end. I doubt that Yakemchuk RD & Jiricek RD will be there for their next pick & they need a big strong shutdown RD & Emery seems like that kind of player. He could also slip into the 2nd rd & if they wait they could then draft another decent forward in the 1st. Charlie Elick is another big RD who will likely end up as a 3rd pairing guy who could also be had in the 2nd rd & Badinka & Lavois are also 2nd rd 3rd pairing RD, so they should pick up one in this coming draft to replace Hamonic.

They should also promote Ostapchuk & Kleven next yr which will bring an element of size, toughness & hard to play against, they both seem ready for prime time & would both help the Sens defensively. They should also target a guy like UFA Matt Roy RD this summer & entice him to come to Ott & make a deal for a guy like Peeke until Emery is ready to take that spot. They also need to do something about goaltending. maybe move on from Forsberg this summer & then look to move on from Korpisalo if he doesn't get better as the team gets better.

Tkachuk - Norris - Giroux
Lindstrom - Stutzle - Batherson
Ostapchuk - Greig - Pinto
Kelly - Kastelic - MacEwan

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - Roy
Kleven - Peeke/JBD

Korpisalo - ???/Sogaard

Don’t mind that at all.

If the sens go on their usual run and end up picking 10-12 I’d be interested in Iginla.

Lindstrom would be a good pick. I would not be surprised if he continues at the rate he's played this year to see him move up one or two spots .. A top 3 pick.
