Jiricek or Iginla who you taking?

Haven’t seen enough of Jiricek to form an opinion to be honest.

Iginla checks a ton of boxes though. All things being equal between the prospects I really like the idea of adding a top forward to give us flexibility to move out one of the high paid forwards and replace with an ELC in a few years.

To me there isn’t a lot to separate the top 7 D, it’s a matter of preference.

If none of the top 3 forwards are available, I hope we just go for the best RD.
BPA based on consensus of reliable rating services is my choice. Whoever we take is likely not going to be in the NHL for 2 years or so (unless it's Celebrini). In two years our needs could significantly change and RD may not be the priority it is now. The RD we need now might be obtainable through trade or UFA now.

The Sens have 13 million dollars in cap space next year to sign free agents.

They have 8 picks in this draft.

Based on the projected $87.5M cap ceiling, we will have $12.05 M available with our current roster and some of that is required to sign Pinto who is not a UFA.

We need replacements for UFAs: Tarasenko, Kubalik, and Brannstrom.

The Brannstrom replacement will hopefully be a competent top 4 RD. via trade or UFA signing.

So if Pinto gets 3 million a year? that leaves 9 million?

Kubalik hasn't done much so I don't see him being hard to replace, possibly even from Belleville.

Brannstrom is not a bad defenceman but the left side is full. If the Sens are able to get that top 4 RD then the defensive balance will lead to a better team.

Do we keep both Chabot and Chychrun? Or do we trade one for a top 4 RD? I just think it is hard to get a good defenceman in free agency without overpaying, let alone get a good right handed defenceman.

Next season should not be a major problem from a cap ceiling perspective; however the 2025-26 season will be as Sanderson and Chabot will be earning $8M and Chychrun will be a UFA then and getting in or near $8M per. $24M for 3 D plus Zub at $4.6M is probably not going to work out cap wise.

I found this fun.. Some history of how Bob got started. Also a cool Ray Donovan reference.
Really good in depth draft ranking discussion.

Man it sucks having to give up a 1st in one of the next 3 drafts. Hard to overstate just how badly Dorion screwed this team.

Don Boyd is running the draft. I am glad we finally got insight into the amateur scouting side of things.
SOA beat me to it.

Couple thoughts from the Top Prospects game last night

First time watching Raoul Boilard and I was very impressed. Looked to have a lot of skill and smarts in a 6'2 frame. Could see him flying up draft boards ala Ryan Johansen in 2010. Will be keeping my eye on him.

Greentree is my guy. I always fall for big slow forwards with excellent skill and IQ. Reminds me so much of Robertson. He's going to go far lower than he should but has star potential if his skating improves.

Yakemchuk is not my guy. His decision making is not great. Neither is his skating, which is far more important for a defenseman than a forward. He'll wow fans with his nice hands and slick dekes in junior, but that stuff absolutely will not work at the NHL level. That's exactly what killed Rundblad. He'll go top 20 and deservedly so, but I don't want him with our top pick.

Very nice review but whoa...painful listening to that guy attempt to interview Bob and go down memory lane. Not sure if he was just nervous or what but difficult to get through.

The Hockey News (Review of Top Prospects Game)

Tij Iginla, C, Kelowna (WHL) - The player of the game for Team White, Iginla had excellent chemistry on a line with Berkly Catton and Terik Parascak. Iginla makes space for himself with his stickhandling and he's great at creating offensive chances. Yes, he's Jarome's son, but Tij has already staked out his own style.
Liam Greentree, RW, Windsor (OHL) - The other great line in the game was also on Team White and it was Greentree with Jett Luchanko and Beckett Sennecke. Greentree sniped one for the game's opening goal on a broken rush and you can tell he's got that scoring hunger - he had a number of dangerous chances on the night.

Colton Roberts, D, Vancouver (WHL) - With his size (nearly 6-foot-4 and 192 pounds) and defensive acumen, Roberts certainly has a lot going for him. But his beauty pass to set up Ben Danford's goal showed off impressive vision and execution; he's got some offense back there, as well.
Cole Beaudoin, C, Barrie (OHL) - While his skating has been knocked all year, I didn't feel like it held him back in this game. Beaudoin muscled off a defender to create a turnover behind the net and get a scoring chance in the first period and made a nice play on defense to snuff out a chance later on. He's definitely got a power forward frame.

Raoul Boilard, C, Baie-Comeau (QMJHL) - Team Red's player of the game ended up with two goals and three points, including the empty-netter that sealed the win. Excellent vision; his pass to Roberts led to the Danford goal. Cleaned up in the crease for his own goal. Overall, a solid two-way center.
Eriks Mateiko, LW, Saint John (QMJHL) - An injury replacement for the game, Mateiko made the most of his opportunity, showing off a great power game with lots of physicality. He uses his frame well and at nearly 6-foot-6 and 208 pounds, it's not hard picturing him in the NHL in some type of role down the road.

Ryerson Leenders, G, Mississauga (OHL) - Overall, the goaltending was very good in the game. I'm giving Leenders the nod because he had to make some really tough saves early in the contest and only got beat once, on the Greentree rocket. Leenders showed great quickness to stop Catton on the rush by stretching across his crease. Calm under pressure, which is always a nice attribute in net.
Tanner Howe, LW, Regina (WHL) - I really liked how feisty and gritty Howe played, especially since he's not a big kid and has put up a lot of points for the Pats over the past few seasons. Surprising amount of power in his game; he did not look fun to play against.

Carter Yakemchuk, D, Calgary (WHL) - Smooth skater made a couple impressive moves to get a good chance on net in the second, so maybe it shouldn't be surprising he's been a point-per-gamer with the Hitmen back in the 'Dub.' The size and the fact he's a right shot adds to Yakemchuk's overall appeal.
Ben Danford, D, Oshawa (OHL) - Nice defensive work to snuff out an offensive opportunity early. You might not think of a Top Prospects Game as a place for defense, but there were a lot of good plays overall in this contest. Danford also buried a goal on one of the best passing sequences of the game.

EJ Emery is a guy I know nothing about but he's committed to UND so I'm convinced that we're picking him. Maybe Boivert gets taken with our 2nd first, again my only logic to that is he's committed to UND...

Brannstrom LD will likely get replaced by Kleven LD to give them much more size, toughness & hard to play against on the back end. We could also replace Kubalik internally with Ostapchuk who can play C or LW, if we could find a pt producer & goal scorer on RW to play with Pinto, Ostapchuk could be the LW who fights in the corners, along the boards & in front of the net on that line. It would not surprise me if they start to give Guennette RD a long look who is playing with Kleven in Belleville now on their 1st pairing. Tarasenko likely gets replaced in the summer with a UFA, maybe he even re-signs here, if he can't find work somewhere else.

I was in the Maritimes for the past week, caught the Prospects game and a few more.

Yoan Loshing is a guy that I think will be a pro player down the road, wouldn’t mind taking him in the 7th or signing him after the draft.

Different kind of overager compared to who the team has been drafting in recent memory, but he can flat out play.

How does he compare with Connor Garland in his DY+1 season after being passed over in his DY?

Garland is shorter but neither would be taken for their size.
