By design or not the Leafs addressed needs in the prospect pool by position while also addressing size

Size is Trev’s MO.. but it seems Clarke was able to find some protectable attributes that he likes in players.

The pipeline gets some dire needed defensive prospects though. Also nice to grab a centre and in a advocate on continually defying goalies

One thing's for sure, Wes is either going to look like a genius or a complete idiot in 4-5 years. It's hard to see a middle ground given his unconventional approach.

Losers

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Leafs were (yet again) light on picks.

I thought No. 31 was a little high for Ben Danford, but I’d been told he was their guy pre-draft, so moving back and grabbing him made sense. He’s a great kid who everyone around the OHL has a ton of time and respect for. They thought about naming him their captain this year in Oshawa. He’s got the defensive foundation and he developed more and more poise and offensive smarts in his game this year, adding elements that weren’t there in minor hockey or even his 16-year-old year. He’s a low-ceiling guy but he could be an effective NHL defenseman.

Victor Johansson, at No. 120, wasn’t in my top 100 but I was told to spend some time on him late in the year. He’s a heady, two-way type with decent athletic tools, even if he’s still early in his development and a long shot.

Holinka is the most interesting of their three fifth-round picks. He clearly looked to be above his peers at Czechia’s junior level this year and has some pro tools.

There were some peculiar picks in the fifth and seventh rounds from the Leafs, though. Sam McCue was a warrior for the Knights and he’s the one of their last five picks who I think has a chance to get a pro contract. He’s probably a bottom-six AHLer, though.
Splitting hairs on picks in later rounds is fairly idiotic.

How can a 5'11 hockey player weight 137 pounds?

How skinny is that kid.

Pretty interesting group for pretty much the back half of the draft.
Big kids, late birthdays, physical was the trend. Love the mystery box Swede, cloaked in intrigue. The last time the Leafs took a Swede with health issues, he ended up playing over 250 games in the nhl. Like the Holinka pick.

He looks heavier than 137 pounds.

To put thing in perspective, Gisele Bündchen is 5'11 and 126 pounds

In short, if we believe in those stats. Tre and Clark drafted someone with a body very similar to Gisele, lol
There have been cases in the past where prospects fell because of incorrect or outdated physical stats. I trust Tommy.

Absolutely abysmal draft imo.

Danford sounds like a warrior. Went early but I’m ok with it
Johnasson was ranked 1225 of all players. Putrid pick
Holinka I actually like this pick.

Plesovskikh not ranked. Waste

Obvinstev not ranked. Russian goalie. Likely waste
Lahey played junior A couldn’t even put up points
McCue fine for a 7th
Mayes last pick of the draft for a reason

Let’s hope I’m wrong and most of us are wrong.

Last time we drafted for size it was another putrid draft.

Leafs Home Board

Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving quickly put his stamp on the Leafs prospect pool with his selections in the draft this weekend.

Well, things have changed in a big way in Toronto when Treliving took over and it was very noticeable at this year's draft where every pick made by the Leafs was 6'1 or taller. The combined average height of the Leafs' eight picks from this year is 6'2 and 3/4, which adds some much-needed size to the Leafs' prospect pool as you can see below.

Ben Danford: 6'2
Victor Johansson: 6'1
Miroslav Holinka: 6'1
Alexander Pleskovskikh: 6'2
Timofei Obvintsev: 6'4
Matthew Lahey: 6'5
Sam McCue: 6'2
Nathan Mayes: 6'4

"So, Brad, what's your draft strategy?"

Brad: I like them big.

"What about that 140 lb guy?"

Brad: What 140 lb guy? He's 240 lbs.

"That's an ink smudge, Brad"

All kidding aside, my sister's toothpick of a boyfriend is a blacksmith that weighs only 150 lbs and I've seen him carry 150 lb. anvils with one hand and throw boulder sized rocks around like they're pebbles. You never really know how strong some guys are.

Started funny but I call pure bullshit on the rest.

Would have liked to see the Leafs take a flyer on Anthony Romani.

Kid is all finish and used to play hockey with my oldest son.

I always felt he had a chance. Good on the Canucks to draft him and see him get his chance.
